Some Russian sites are reporting that Matt Korobov will fight Gennady Golovkin on HBO if he does well against Grady Brewer (and if GGG gets past Curtis Stevens).

  2. Korobov is the dark horse at middleweight
he was a seriously good amateur
he is one of only 3 or 4 fighters that has a chance against GGG

Korobov lost to Golovkin in the amateurs.

But Matvey has at least one win over Gaydarbek Gaydarbekov, who later the same year went on to defeat Golovkin for the Gold Medal in the 2004 Olympics.

The funny thing is Korobov will be a large step up from Stevens but rest assured there are numbskulls on here bound to claim the opposite.

I agree, I think Korobov and Pirog are the biggest threats for Golovkin.

I've always thought Korobov would beat Golovkin.

If I was Golovkin I'd avoid Matt for the same reasons he himself has been avoided, high-risk, little reward.

After the Duran win i was hoping he would take a step up and fight someone like Lee or Bursak. Going from the level he's at to a title shot is undeserved and isn't something he's really prepared for but it is a fight i would like to see.

I'm glad Korobov is getting back into the 160 scene after looking like he was going to waste his career away.

Duran and Brewer are respectable opponents compared to who he was facing but I'd like to see him take another step up before getting a title shot at Golovkin.

There's plenty of guys Korobov could step up to like Lee, Proska, Rosado, etc before jumping up to a guy like Golovkin.

I still think Korobov gives Golovkin a good fight but I think if this fight happens next its a good fight or two too soon.

Arum still promotes korobov, correct/ If so, why would he throw him in with Golovkin when a promoter of his calibre could easily get Korobov a shot against Barker? Or here is a crazy idea, continue to bring him along before prematurely throwing him into a title fight.

I question the validity of this source...

Not sure but this might be the source I guess

    Steve Kim tweet:
“@BernieBahrmasel “@latimespugmire @BobArum says if Matt Korobov looks good on Sept. 28 undercard of @jcchavezjr1-Vera, he's been promised shot at @gggboxing Golovkin.””

    Tom Loeffler tweet:
@stevemaxboxing @berniebahrmasel @latimespugmire @bobarum If GGG looks good in Nov we should make the fight w Chavez-Bob can pick the weight

GGG facing Chavez and Korobov picking up another good win in the meantime would do wonders for this fight. As of now, it's ratings wouldn't be equal to what they should be because Korobov is still a dark horse and GGG's popularity is still growing quickly.

Stevens, Chavez, Korobov, Martinez would look damn good for GGG's next 4 fights.

no way he fights GGG next. Arum has not even come close to maximizing his profit from him, and that is the bottom line..
