Not neccessarily in a competitive bout, but sparring also. I know people will say sparring is supposed to be light, but at my gym we will each be in and out and I typically do 4-5 rounds and sometimes its technical sparring, but sometimes its open so obviously it is not as fast paced as a bout but we still throw big shots to practice. Ive been boxing just under a year now, ive only had two bouts but obviously ive sparred lots. In sparring ive knocked someone down with a right when they came running in but they was off balance, and I have also put someone down with a left to the body which could have been for a 10 count as it landed so sweetly. Btw I was the least experienced in both instances, and the smaller guy in the second one. So im not a gym bully, I said sorry and went easy afterwards to let them recooperate. So just curious as to how many people you have put down, we obviously all keep note.
a lot on sparrings by a body shots, but never by headshot. i could do it against less skilled guys but there was no need cause they wanted to learn, otherwise they know what would happen i had 5 bouts but i didnt make it to knock them down.. i had few standing counts
Ciao lol How come you only had five fights? and are you from Croatia? I know a little of the language as I have about 10 friends from there and went on holiday for 11 days!
i started to compete half year ago so 5 bouts are ok looking forward to new season!! i hope you liked your holiday here. good luck in knocking down :good
No knockdowns in any of my competitive bouts. Never been much of a power puncher. But when I started sparring - I started with a couple guys who had equal experience (which was 0), so we weren't actually sparring - we were just fighting, and winging big shots. So we dropped each other pretty frequently (all body shots). Later on, learned to get more technical, work on defense & slow it down a tad, and haven't really dropped anyone since. Still I've been dropped by body shots from bigger guys in recent months.
Twice on accident and once on purpose. Left uppercut to the body under his right cross (stopped the session and had him throwing up), left hook counter to clip the chin right after he landed his own hook (more of a flash knockdown), and the last one I bet a guy he couldn't stand up for the whole session, rocked him with a right hand over his jab then put him down with a hook-cross-left uppercut (only time I've ever done something like that....really didn't like the guy). Been down once, got caught on top of the head while trying to pivot under and out from a right cross, back leg slid out and wen down to all fours. Not a real hard knockdown but still counts so I can't say I've never been down.
Never in 21 fights. (I did with kicks in a Muay Thai fight) everyone I've punched outside a ring has hit the deck though.
Was that you, or your opponent???? I'm getting a bit long in the tooth and when I boxed amateur we went at it like the pros did. This was back in the mid to late 60's and guys were getting beat up in the gym on a regular basis. We'd get knocked down, bloodied, even cut sometimes. Nose bleeds were frequent occurrences, especially for one fellow that would bleed if you even feinted a punch close to his nose.
Is that pro or amateur? Either way, that's impressive and you obviously have some heavy hands or high work rate of accurate shots. Hat's off to you.
In sparring I knocked down four guys and all with the same punch- the straight left hand. Which is odd, because I was/am/always have been an orthodox boxer. And they all came off the same move. I'd get him to throw a right hand at me. Then I'd slide my left foot back, my right foot forward and to the right and throw the straight left. Simple little side-step move and it worked all the time. Sneaky punch. That was 35 years ago, roughly.
So if i'm reading this right, you basically switched to southpaw stance and threw the straight left? If so, i've been practicing in southpaw a lot lately - and the straight left somehow finds its mark nicely. I can see why they get some nice angles against orthodox fighters.
