The heavy handed Bruno ,who also possessed a hard jab versus the man who gave Ali fits . Both sets of whiskers were prone to disaster. What is the outcome between these body- beautifuls prime for prime?
bruno finishes him in round 4-6. if he doesnt norton beats him on points taking the last 4 rounds to win a UD. but im going with bruno by KO.
Agree. Bruno had that ramrod jab. And his right hand or left hook is gonna be too much for Norton. Bruno had elite power imo.
I think Norton wins. Bruno boxed by numbers, jab - jab, jab - cross, jab - cross - hook. Bruno's only chance would imo be to blast Norton early as he did Coetzee, but Coetzee was past it, overweight & un-motivated for that fight. Generally, Bruno boxed at a slow, steady pace, behind the jab. Most of him stoppages were against poor standard, immobile journeyman/opponent types, or names who were well past it. He had poor stamina, probably partly due to his over-muscled physique but also partly, I believe through using up too much nervous energy. Mickey Duff is of the opinion that Bruno lacked the big occasion temperant. A factor could be the distance - 10 would suit Bruno more, 12 or 15 Norton. I would anticipate this fight would start with both men being cagey and working off their jabs - and I don't think it's a given that Bruno would win that battle, Norton outjabbed Ali often. I believe that after about 7 or 8 rounds Bruno would flag & I see Norton stopping an exhausted Bruno in about 10 or 11 rounds. There is always the cahnce Norton could take Bruno out early - the way Norton's overhand right wrecked Bobick was eerily similar to the right hand with which Cummings filleted Bruno.
Good post, I think it goes to the cards though: Frank might start well and be in the fight and maybe shake Noron, but he often wasnt a great finisher when he had his man hurt. I think Frank gasses as usual and Norton outboxes him down the stretch.
Excellent analysis -- both ways. I find it interesting that I feel Witherspoon is better than Bruno (he beat him, but was losing at the time he pulled out the win), but I picked Norton over Witherspoon and here I'm picking Bruno over Norton. Styles make fights...and man isn't the sweet science a beautiful thing? One thing is for certain, if Bruno doesn't KO him in the first 30 seconds, he will hold the back of Norton's head and throw lots of punches. (I say this as a kid who absolutely fell in love with Bruno when he was on Letterman before the first Tyson fight.)
I think this is a highly plausible, not to say probable scenario. I was ringside for both Coetzee ,and Cummings, Coetzee was in soft condition, out of shape ,and disinterested. Cummings caught Bruno at the end of the round ,and Lawless got him back on his stool asap.If Jumbo had nailed him early in the round it would have been"goodnight Frank" . Cummings huge biceps ,[from weights in prison] soon got starved of oxygen and he began to flounder.
I cannot see Bruno winning this one. I think Norton beats him 10 times out of 10, just my opinion, I like Bruno though.
Interesting fight. In spite of Norton being a level above Bruno,there's always a chance that Frank will land a big shot or two on Ken's chin. Bruno's best chance would be to bomb Norton out in the early going which would n't be impossible. However,Frank's heavy punches were n't as free flowing as George Foreman's or even Earnie Shavers,so this can't be taken as a gimmee. An equally feasible scenario is that Norton weathers the early storm and stops a tired Bruno late in the contest.
Bruno seemed to freeze to the spot when Cummings caught him with that shot ! I was so relieved when the bell for that round rang.
I can't see Bruno coming out the way he would have to in order to shake Ken and have a chance to stop him. He wasn't like Shavers that way. Ken sets back and catches him increasingly for a late round stoppage of a tiring Bruno.
Norton had trouble with hookers. Bruno could hook, but I see him more as a jab, right hand kinda guy. I think Norton troubles him and wins by decision.
