Theres that comparing records again, hes only beaten Prescott.Like I said I dont rate fighters on their records I dont think thats how boxing works and I think its a big reason why guys like Jose Gonzalez get underestimated. Kevin Mitchell was brutally destroyed by Michael Katsidis in front of his own fans, that right there put an exclamation point on his career and he hasnt been the same fighter since,Ricky has improved no doubt about it but Kevin Mitchell has taken a nose dive. You might call me mad for saying this but the fighter that beat Carl Johanessen and Preidis Prescott in Kevin Mitchell would have wiped the floor with the Rickster but hes quite simply not the same fighter. Believe me when I say this I am not a guy that buys into hype,I study fighters and access them on their styles, defence, offence, footwork and ring generalship, from what Ive seen from Terrence Crawford Id rank him right up there with the top 3 or 4 lightweights in the world. If the fight between Rick and Crawford ever does get made Im sure youll be eating your words.
You keep bringing up the fact Gonzalez was unknown and underestimated by some yes he was but that is also the reason the fight went how it did he hadn't been in with anyone who could take his power and fire back and as soon as he had someone who took his power and started to fire back his legs and heart went. Now i'm not saying Crawford is a bad fighter however he's not been in with the same level of fighter as Ricky has so to rank him above Ricky IMO is ridiculous right now but if he steps up and fights better names and looks impressive the yeah you can start putting him in the same sentence and he will have to fight Ricky at some point given that he's the WBO #1.
I remember when the Gonzalez mandatory was made. The vast majority on this forum were saying he was a ridiculous challenger for the title.Crude,no boxing ability, etc.Im not claiming to be an expert, but I pointed out that he was an unbeaten Puerto Rican, and was proved right. But Burns, credit to him, still came through.I think this division is packed with talent.Purely selfishly,Im quite happy to watch Ricky defend against what I consider top class opposition. If the unifications come later, fair enough. If he carries on long enough, somebody will beat him, thats a fact.I hope, and believe,it won't be Beltran.
There's some piping hot crow and humble pie on the supper table; chow down. Beltran, easy work. Breeze defense.
Only people that don't have a clue about boxing said it was going to be easy,Ray Beltran is a better fighter than Ricky Burns.
He certainly was today, and he was always better than some deluded Brits (in denial after the Gonzalez experience) gave him credit for.
That was a poor decision, Ricky showed heart and guts but no way could you make a case for him winning or getting a draw. Beltran got screwed over.
I doubt very much we will see humble pie eaten when the greaser comes on.Look at his first post on this thread, withoot provocation, and that shows the calibre of man nelson is.
