Burns is currently in surgery getting a titanium plate fitted. Clean break to his jaw. To fight on with that for 10 rounds is pretty amazing.

I was there last night and thought Beltran won the fight - this morning I'm just impressed that Ricky fought on.

Who knows how much it impacted on his performance but he deserves some credit. Some of the posts are way over the top!

Burns' jaw was moving up in down in the post fight interview so I'd be surprised if it's a clean break.

His talking was clearly affected in the post fight interview. He looked out of sorts again last night. When he fights a big and active lightweight he seems to struggle. Gonzalez was winning before pulling out, Beltran looked as though he did more than enough last night. Ricky doesn't have the power to keep strong solid opponents off him. Beltran looked solid last night. Saying that Beltran should have got him out of there. Ricky would have won some of the close rounds, Beltran won some more clearly, including the knock down.

Props to Burns for not quiting and showing amazing heart to see it through to the end. Arthur Abraham did it vs Edison Miranda too so I take my hat off to both guys for what must've been agony.

However, we all know Burns lost the fight.

No one has said he deserved to win or that he deserved a draw, all that was said was that Burns deserves some credit for fighting on with a broken jaw.

No one on this thread has said he didn't deserve to lose. I'm saying he deserved credit for fighting on.

As to whether it was a clean break, the X-ray has been released.

Edited to say I was too slow! Majr has covered it before me!

If he did'nt break his jaw he would have smashed the guy inside 6, no doubt.

Real true warrior heart, deserved WC and cant wait until he gets fixed up and fights on.

Take Gamboa or Vazquez over to the UK (if there brave enough) and give them a real rest against Ricky instead of fighting bums.

    Agreed!

Regardless of result, Burns deserves full respect for fighting ten more rounds with such an injury.

I did wonder why Burns was holding so much and quite obviously such an injury would **** up your game plan!!!

Considering the fact that Beltran only "won" by two-three points despite Ricky suffering such an injury with 10 rounds left in the fight, one would strongly favour Burns in a rematch.

Let's hope Burns makes a full (physical and mental) recovery.

The consistently awful Jim Watt actually pointed out early that Burns may be holding so much because of an injured jaw, well spotted Jim

I didn't like to see Beltran robbed again though, it just makes Ricky look bad and makes people root against him

Burns could be out for at least 12 months and has a mandatory with Terrance Crawford due in the next few months so there's no chance he's hanging on to his title.

More likely he'll be stripped and Crawford vs Beltran will be made for the vacant title and Burns will get a crack at it if he makes a full recovery and gets the medical all clear to box again which could be in doubt.
