Would 36 year old Tszyu have beat Hatton if Cortez have reffed the fight?

First time I saw Hatton was his fight against Tszyu and it was a very dirty/ Roughhousing/ hugging technique pulled by Ricky. Maybe thats the reason I never liked the guy up to this date.

 

But honestly Hatton was to intense for Tszyu anyway that night.

I think it was the 6th or 7th Tszyu had just had his best round of the fight, he was starting to time Hatton better and was landed harder shots. Ricky came straight out the next round and went after Kostya, and took to fight out of him.

 

Tszyu couldn't handle the smothering attack of Hatton, Floyd handled it with no problem. That's one of the reasons he's such a great fighter. By the way, Hatton did a lot of pushing, grappling, and clinching in that fight and that ref let him get away with it, but I don't think any ref could have saved Tszyu that night, he just got out-hussled.

 

Hatton would have been DQ'd

I think it would have given him a much better chance. It was a very close fight, and Kostya was getting beaten during the long and excessive clinches. These also served to greatly fatigue him. If Cortez had been there to break things up promptly when the grappling started, KT had the advantage from the outside. I think KT could have won a close UD, although still a very very tough fight for him, that could realistically still go to Hatton. Thing is but, which is what makes me unsure, is that PBF was VERY clever in getting things broken up. He would duck his head when hatton rushed, to FORCE Cortez to break things up. Kostya comparatively decided to try and beat Hatton at his own game. Hatton is so fast on the way in, he is VERY hard to time and counter. Floyd beat Hatton with ring intelligence IMO, more so then anything else.

 

Yeah, that's how I remember it too.

 

Lets no forget we could discuss this all day however at the end of the fight Kosyta admitted he lost to the better man. Good ref bad ref KT was always going to lose that fight.

Who knows Cortez did a pretty good job in the Castillo fight. I was pretty shocked when a completely different guy showed up for the Mayweather fight.

 

I agree I think it was more a case of Floyd playing Cortez and out smarting Hatton at the sametime.

Hell yes, that fight was a scam, I've been saying it since the day it happen and will never stop saying it. It was a damn robbery from start to finish, if you watch the fight to focus on Hatton's illegal tactics you'll realise he got away with AT LEAST 3 EACH round out of 11 and Tszyu was still able to make it a close fight despite his age at the time. This also proves what kind of a fighter Tszyu is, to take on the best England has to offer with all the cheating tactics being legal and still making it close.
