Agree that Floyd is a great talent, but back in SRR's time, arguably there were numerous fighters near Floyd's ability and SRR still stood out amongst them. Hard to make even a remote case for Floyd when he's pick and chose so many soft opponents through out his career. Even his biggest wins were under less than favorable conditions for his opponents from Corrales, Dela Hoya, Mosely, Hatton, and even Cotto.

 

I rate benitez leonard duran all over floyd mayweather and none of then are near ray robinson

The 80-0 was in the amateurs. He lost to Lamotta after his 40th fight. He was the beneficiary of a long count when he was badly knocked down and hurt by Artie levine, and, by most observers, got a gift in his 5th fight with Lamotta. I'm just sayin'. He got a few perps by being a superstar.

I love Ray Robinson, it sucks there's not too much footage of him when he was the WW king. At 147 the guy was pretty much invincible.

But let's be real, it's hard to compare fighters of the last few decades with guys that fought from the early 1900's-1950's because those guys fought up to 4 times a month and stat padded the hell out of their resumes.

But if you actually dissect some of the ATG's records, you'll see there were a lot of tomato cans on their resumes, fighters that wouldn't be allowed to fight today against top level fighters. People get so enamored with these 100+ win resumes but fail to actually see how many of those wins were against club fighters.

Robinson has beaten a myriad of ATG's, but he also has way too many tomato cans on his resume. If FLoyd fought guys with 20+ losses and fought in a time when boxers didn't make enough money to support themselves fighting twice a year, than he could essentially have some ridiculous record like some of the ATG's such as Robinson, Greb and Armstrong.

Still, SRR is in a league of his own and was pretty indestructible at 147.

 

I still say FLoyd has a chance to go down as a top 10 P4P all timer based on who he fights for the remainder of his contract and if he continues to fight and win a little bit longer. When I look at the top 10 P4P guys, there's no one that can tell me he wouldn't beat Benny Leonard at 135 or even give Roberto Duran or Hank Armstrong a run for their money at lightweight as well. Those were all great fighters, but at the lighter weights FLoyd was a pretty powerful dude than you factor in he's the greatest defensive fighter since Willie Pep, and I just don't see how he doesn't get more recognition as being one of the greatest of all time. Him taking so many year long layoffs since 2007 has hurt his resume a bit, but everytime he comes back he avoids tuneup fights, takes on top tier fighters and wipes the floor with them. Pretty damn impressive.

It'll be interesting to see how highly he'll be rated 15-20 years after he officially retires. Usually guys are thought of in a more favorable light after they've hung up the gloves for a while.

 

if Floyd KO's Canelo and then KO's GGG and then Manny he still wont be as great as Walker Smith but id then put him level with Barney Ross

 

Smith was able to fight every three weeks whilst on vacation in Europe.

Floyd didnt fight for two years whilst on vacation.

One is P4P 1.

The other doesnt get in my top 50 and I like Floyd.
