If there is one who selected Cotto as a handpicked opponent,it is probably you. You actually put a bet that Cotto will not win more than 2 rounds!!!!! If that is not a handpicked opponent, I don't know what to call that. Opponents who are not handpicked would have better odds than that. BTW,you still owe me an avatar bet.
Cotto won 3 rounds on 2 judges scorecards and matched my prediction on another. So i was very close. Dont worry ill get to your avy widdle fellah.
He is top 100, I don't know that I'd consider him a top 50 ATG just yet. Proclaiming himself the greatest despite his underwhelming resume these past few years isn't that impressive to me and I'm not placing him amongst the very greatest based on what he supposedly can do instead of on what he's done. The guy for the most part since moving up to 140 has managed to not fight the elite fighters available to take on fighters he should easily beat like Ortiz, Baldomir, Gatti, Marquez cheating him on the scales..and the ones he did face he did so when they were older and past their prime (Cotto, 38yo Mosley). His best wins in that time were vs Hatton who he made move up to fight him when he could have fought him at 140 after Hatton beat Tszyu and Mayweather beat Gatti. And an old and rusty DLH, which he gets credit for going up to fight and allowing many to have many advantages over him, but it wasn't a very impressive performance and he was fortunate Oscar faded. Infact whenever Floyd faced an elite fighter who wasn't completely shot or ancient they gave him a bit of trouble (DLH, Castillo, Cotto, Hatton..and even shot Mosley put him on ***** st though he did well to shut Mosley out after that). Corrales was the only exception, his greatest win all up and most flawless performance. No disrespect, but if Corrales is your greatest win, and you managed not to fight so many great fighters that you could have, you don't deserve to be up there. There are two left who are still elite and can prop up his legacy up there with the best, but if he avoids them as usual I personally won't consider him anywhere near the level of the Whitaker's, Leonard's, Hearn's, Duran's, Armstrong's, Greb's, Robinson's, Ali's..If he doesn't fight Pacquiao or Martinez I'll see him as a great talent with a carefully managed career once he reached the point where he could pick and choose his fights which cost him a legacy as one of the greatest.
I think your being way over the top, you some valid points but I think Floyd is top 30. No higher than somewhere in the 20's. I agree he is not as great as he proclaims and not as great many before for him however he is still an all time great and I think your kinda underrating his greatness. I know he hasnt fought everybody but lets be real the only great fighter he hasn't fought is pacquiao. To counter your point about him at times against non shot elite fighters, the truth is it doesnt matter how great of a fighter you are you are never going to dominate every single fight and win every single round, when you fight world class opposition like Floyd, there are times when you going to be tested and have some trouble. The great fighters like Floyd are able to adjust to whatever trouble you give and be able to come back an find a way to clear victory. Whenever any fighter gave him trouble he was still able to figure them out, adjust and then dominate them or still come out with a clear victory
This was before last night: 01 - Sam Langford 02 - Harry Greb 03 - Sugar Ray Robinson 04 - Henry Armstrong 05 - Ezzard Charles 06 - Bob Fitzsimmons 07 - Muhammad Ali 08 - Joe Gans 09 - Joe Louis 10 - Roberto Duran. 11 - Benny Leonard 12 - Mickey Walker 13 - Willie Pep 14 - Barney Ross 15 - Archie Moore 16 - Ray Leonard 17 - George Dixon 18 - Terry McGovern 19 - Packey McFarland 20 - Pernell Whitaker 21 - Tony Canzoneri 22 - Jimmy McLarnin 23 - Sandy Saddler 24 - Stanley Ketchel 25 - Charley Burley 26 - Holman Williams 27 - Billy Conn 28 - Gene Tunney 29 - Roy Jones 30 - Joe Walcott 31 - Carlos Monzon 32 - Jimmy Wilde 33 - Eder Jofre 34 - Marvin Hagler 35 - Julio Cesar Chavez 36 - Tommy Gibbons 37 - Kid Gavilan 38 - Jack Britton 39 - Emile Griffith 40 - Jose Napoles 41 - Alexis Arguello 42 - Michael Spinks 43 - Tommy Loughran 44 - Thomas Hearns 45 - Jimmy Bivins 46 - Ike Williams 47 - Floyd Mayweather I actually think beating up an unbeaten up and comer one weight class above his best, so much younger, will enhance his ranking by a little. But I don't think he'll be into the top 40.
Do you reckon he can crack the Top 40? If so, who could he defeat of the current generation to do that?
Part of Money's problem, as you've identified, is opposition. If you look at Jimmy Bivins, he's beaten an absolute slew of ATG fighters - Moore, Burley, Charles, absolutely greats. So weirdly, Pacquiao even past prime is probably his best win. He shot himself in the foot there. He would have won that I think, prime for prime and it would have been worth maybe as many as six slots on its own. Longevity is his best bet for a top 40 finish now.
These make believe lists are a waste of time and usually biased as ****. Fact is floyd is one of the greatest fighters of this generation. He will be remembered as one of the best boxers to ever lace them up.
Not many of those fighters has changed the game the way that Floyd has. At worst he is top 20. Even the way he preps on the pads. A new breed of fighter with the defensive craft he has created and perfected will be born. Not many on that list did that
