Floyd haters: Isn't it about time to discuss him in the same breath as SRR?

To echo the sentiments of some previous posters... I agree he's up there skill wise, but to put him up there in greatness he really needs that signature win over a 50/50 or more difficult challenge.

SRR to LaMotta "take da test" (nope sorry that didnt happen) fought him 6 times
FM to Pac "take da test" ran from him and ducked him for years until pac finally lost.

ATG mayeather is, fought the "LaMotta" of his era ZERO times

In the early '40s watched SRR train in camp 'n fight live (from ringside) in the N.Y. tri-state area. That enough fantasy 'n BS for you?

Are you too ruffled to just discuss Money May 'n SRR, the subjects of the thread?

It's all about perception. I'm sure Golovkin would be considered at least a 50/50 fight. If Mayweather completely dominates him like he did Canelo he will surely be considered to be up there with the very best like SRR.

I'm not saying Floyd should move up to MW, but that's one way to attain that challenge that will, at the very least, be perceived as a legitimate close fight that would enhance Floyd's greatness.

Randy Turpin is in the HOF, child. Here are some of the other guys that are in the HOF that SRR defeated.

    Bobo Olson (x4)
    Kid Gavilan (x2)
Jake LaMotta (5 out of 6 times)
    Henry Armstrong
    Sammy Angott
    Fritzie Zivic (x2)
    Rocky Graziano
    Randy Turpin
    Gene Fullmer
    Carmen Basilio

Floyd has 20 wins over ranked opposition and titlists. Good stuff. SRR has nearly the same wins over guys who are in the Hall of Fame. When Victor Ortiz and Robert Guerrero are inducted, then maybe we can talk. :D

So did everyone else, it should be noted. Would have been nice to see those two square off, though.

Mayweather has done enough to be considered above Jones or Hopkins, but he's still a step below Charles, Moore, Pep, Ali. And he's two steps below Armstrong, Robinson and Greb.

Understanding that its a different era and that boxers having 100 fights careers, fighting a couple weeks apart, fighting a bunch of guys who will go to the hall, is a thing of the past...

I dont see how they cannot be mentioned in the same breath.

Look, Floyd is the most skilled boxer I have ever seen. Pull out all the boxing tapes you can, black and white grainy footage, whatever, you will not find a more skillful fighter then Floyd.

Where Floyd is behind is in accomplishments. He does need to beat Pac to complete his legacy. He just does.

    Maybe not now.

    But there was recently.

And he went to great lengths to avoid the guy when it mattered.

SRR put no such barriers in the way when it came to taking on all comers.

A signature win over Pac would definitely have strengthened Floyd's case.

As it stands, this duck will loom somewhat over his career.
