Main Event: Floyd deserves love from boxing fans for making this fight happen. There's been a handful of highly demanded fights before that never happened, and although it's not always Floyd's fault, he usually gets the blame. Whether you think this fight was a year early or not, with Pacquiao out of the picture temporarily, this was the best fight that could've been made. Both men wanted it, and they made it happen. Thank you Floyd and Canelo! Floyd proved once again (DLH being the first time) that like Pacquiao, he can carry out a dominant performance against a legitimate and significantly bigger fighter at the top of the division. Mayweather did better than I thought. Although I didn't post an official prediction here, I felt Floyd was going to get robbed in a competitive fight. But Floyd completely negated that by putting on a dominating performance. Unfortunately, the score cards were still controversial to say the least. Semi Main Event: Danny Garcia did a great job against Mathysse. I think he fought the best fight he possibly could, like a young veteran (to put it in his terms) and deserved the win. Congratulations to him and his team! I thought Lucas on the other hand could have performed better. I thought he could have used his jab more and moved his head, but I guess he couldn't really adjust well. He'll be back! Both guys put on an entertaining fight, both fought a little dirty, but neither really complained! Credit to both warriors, they definitely understand the game! Conclusion: I know people will always find a reason to hate, but there are no excuses for last night's fights. Canelo was not drained, he performed as well as he could, and although Floyd would be the favorite against any realistic opponent, I still hope that he continues to face the best available opposition. Garcia and Mathysse fought a rough, tough competitive affair, I think Danny will move on to bigger paychecks at WW, and Mathysse will continue to torment the jr.ww division for a minute. I only see two legitimate challenges for Floyd in the near future. The first one is... Pacquiao... I know, I went there again. But if he rebuilds himself in October, I really only give him a realistic chance to upset Floyd at welterweight. The other is Golovkin, or any MW titlist for that matter. However, I don't think it's fair to hold Floyd to that standard. I just see that as the only other way to continue challenging himself, because he's THAT good. Thoughts? :bbb
