PBF is the last of a dying breed. Guys like Hopkins JMM Ward and Rigo are master technicians who are on a different level from anyone else. These guys should be celebrated and not bashed.

Floyd is not THE greatest of all time...but he is most certainly an ATG. He will be in most people's top 50 or 100 greatest of all time, and probably is now. That is amazing considering how many good fighters there have been. If it were based on skill and talent alone he would crack the top 25.

It's such crazy comparisons though, would ray robinson have fought over 100 time in todays era.. NO!! You can't just say .. he had more fights so he's better..
Fighters will never have that many fights again so basically were sayin no fighter in the next 100 years has a chance to be in the top 10 or the GOAT..

Generational bias, Usually they want to see a war (fighter hitting canvas and getting back up) before they respect a fighter, and they can get down with his lifestyle.

With that said, I think floyd is the best to ever do it.

Is like telling some old guy that Tool or Alice in Chains is better than the beatles.

Plus everytime a story is told it gets exaggerated.

I went back and watched where all the hype on the classic dudes on youtube and only ones that impressed me was SRR, SRL. Hearns is too freaking big for his weight and Duran is also pretty good. But judging from what you see in the forum you would think they have slayed dragons and shoot laser beams out of their fists.

Those old timers doesn't understand that we have youtube now so their stories or legends can be validated.

He lacks the killer win. Duran has Leonard, Hearns has Duran, Ali has Liston, Pacquiao has Barrera, Jones has Toney, Floyd has Canelo/Corrales.

He needs the name. It's an important aspect of your resume.

It was a terrific performance ,13 years older, giving away 15lbs, he dominated Alvarez.

Are you saying he was best as a SFW or that today he should be fighting at SFW since he is not a natural welter?
The latter is a no, the former is possibly. He was faster at SFW but has more experience and is more skilled now so it may be difficult to say as his competition at SFW was not great enough.
Also keep in mind that SFW is not an old weight class so the ATG talent pool is much shallower.

:huh You act as if it is difficult to find more than 24 fighters better than Floyd.

This is indeed the weak point in Floyd's record, historically speaking. A tremendous talent, and very probably the best of his generation, but he has not brought his era under sovereign rule for two factors:

    1) Lack of activity
    2) Failure to fight his biggest threat

Just take a look at the common opponents of Floyd and Manny:

    Oscar De La Hoya
    Ricky Hatton
    Juan Manuel Marquez
    Miguel Cotto
    Shane Mosley

That's more than considerable. In fact, given the proximity of these ten fights history will come to believe they were literally tip-toeing beside each other.

With the likes of Larry Holmes and Marvin Hagler believing Floyd was scared of the Philippine (whatever truth there may be to that) it doesn't look good. This isn't to insinuate that Pacquiao wasn't a little to blame, but as nes01 rightfully pointed out, Pacman has Barrera.

I used to think, and probably still do, that Mayweather would get the measure of Manny, but what I can't be sure of is whether he truly believes he would win. His demeanour always seems to change when Manny slips into conversation, and Marquez has been referenced lately as a kind of protective barrier - the old "I beat him, and he beat Manny, so that fight's not valid".

If people are still asking for it then the fight is definitely still valid.
