Common now I like Floyd but there are a lot of other good fighters and fights. Haye vs fury for example IMO is more exciting than May vs Canelo. If ur talking about historically wise, as big as Floyd is he was never bigger than guys like Tyson.
For casual fans, yes. But the sport means so much more to so many other people then just Floyd. Die hard fans, Amateur boxers trying to overcome hard times, Coach's watching young kids grow into fighters and men. The sport is and always will be way bigger then one single man.
No... How you are percieved outside of the sport will determine if you are 'bigger' than the sport Ali was bigger than the sport... because he was also more than just a boxer to people. Floyd will always just be a boxer.
Boxing made Floyd, not the other way around. You are not bigger than what you came from, what created you. Have you not read the Book of Job? Floyd is a boxing virtuoso, that is what is.
Ali transcended the sport, but I don't believe he was bigger than the sport itself. I believe without guys like Joe Frazier, Ken Norton, and George Foreman, he wouldn't have been as great as he was. I agree that Ali was more than just a boxer, and Floyd will always be just a boxer because his character and credibility sucks so bad now. But Floyd I believe has a stranglehold on the sport now in a way that no one ever has. He apparently made over 8 times as much money as Canelo. He's doing things that no one else is able to do. He's essentially holding the sport hostage.
