    Did you watch the fight?

While you're right he had Danny slightly hurt, Matthysse is the one who tasted canvas hard in that round.

    What are you talking about?

Matthysse is one of the more liked boxers on this forum.

Nearly everyone thought and was rooting for him to win, myself included.

Just so happened that the majority of fans and experts were wrong.

He stumbled forward and into the ropes from his reaction to taking Garcia's punches.

    Read above.

Legit KD. No pushing, shoving, clinching, anything... Matthysse was rocked and staggered several feet forward into the ropes, where he went down.

Garcia did fight a dirty fight and he should have lost a point sometime around round 8-ish.

However, that hasn't stopped people from giving Mares credit for his victories over Agbeko and Moreno, which featured many many more low blows than Garcia threw.

I don't like Garcia, but it is what it is. Great decisive victory as a sizable underdog against "the hardest puncher in boxing."

Going into round 7, Matthysse was ahead 58-56 on two of the judges cards, and the other had it even at 57. Close fight, but Matthysse was getting the better of Danny, and unless you are from Philly or Puerto Rico, or just a faithfull American fan, you have to admit this. To say that the eye injury did not change the fight radically is just typical of someone who is highly biased. Yes, Danny´s punches (some say a headbutt) caused that eye to shut down, and that´s to his credit, but how many times have we seen someone get pummeled and still not develop an eye injury like that. It´s not something that was entirely in Danny´s control, so there is a little bit of "luck" involved. Then you add the constant clinching, which is not nice to watch, but hey, it is legal. However, the low blows were out of control, and in my mind that really takes some luster to Danny´s victory. Then you go into the 11th rd, and a punch that would have knocked down a Buffalo, Danny is able to take (shaken and all, but he took it), and the mouthguard goes all the way to the third row...fight stopped, Danny has time to recover, takes and gives a few more shots, Matthysse gets tangled on the ropes, gets hit with a combo, goes down, gets right back up, etc...

My point with all this is: both guys are amazing warriors, both deserve all the credit in the world, but in my mind, things happened in this fight that went in the favor of Danny. Call it that the "boxing gods" were on his side, that he had a ref that was lineant, that he had a near perfect fight, and that still, the fight was close, and had that 1 second KD not taken place in the 11th rd, it would have been a tie on two of the cards. Keep in mind Matthysse would have won the 11th and it would have been a 10-9 rd instead of an 8-10rd...total game changer.

Logically thinking, I would say Matthysse takes it. Lightning does not strike twice in the same place...but of course, Garcia always seems to find a way to win...so 50/50
