I didn't see the canelo-May Jr. fight...but I did see Martinez Vs JCC Jr. so tell me; was the May Jr. vs Canelo fight as much of a rout as Sergio vs Julio Jr?

sergio ended up in the hospital with stitches in both his mouth and head along with torn ligaments in his right knee and a broken left hand.

chavez also knocked down sergio and had him severely hurt in the 12th round.

canelo did pretty much nothing and to knowledgeable boxing people the fight was pretty much over after the fourth round where the disparity in skillset was that of a prospect sparring a world class champion.

only difference was martinez was way more active and got dropped in the 12th but was way ahead on all the scorecards....

    both one sided contests though.

Alvarez didn't even take 10% of the damage Martinez did in winning. :good

  6. Floyd vs Canelo was pretty entertaining for 12 rounds whilst Sergio vs Chavez was boring up until the 12th round

The sergio - julio jr match-up surprised me in that sergio seemed so much higher on the skill level than julio jr.
julio's lucky punch in the 12 (and followup attempts to KO) apparently did tons of damage according to the reports in this thread. Rounds 1-11 was basically a boxing master showing a student what it was all about.

well, im a person that likes to go by facts and when you take into consideraton facts then there is no comparason between the two fights.

canelo landed at a 22 percent connect percentage to chavez's 46 percent connect percentage

martinez landed at a 35 percent connect percentage to mayweathers 46 percentage.

chavez also landed 178 total punches compared to canlelos 117.

sergio was knocked down in that fight while floyd was not.

sergio went to the hospital that night.

floyd probably went to the club that night.

but most convincing is that sergio was done after the 12th round, a round in which he barely survived and many would believe that he would have been knocked out if there were one more round remaining.

floyd, many would believe, could have went another 12 more rounds in sparring which is essentially what he did with canelo.

    sparring.

a hyped-up prospect sparring with a world champion

Canelo was more competitive throughout the fight, for the first 6 rounds Floyd wasn't controlling him at all

Chavez looked much more outclassed, but he did a lot more damage in the end

like seriously, going by Sergio's pathetic last performance it would seem as if the match with Chavez Jr ruined him.

I've never seen anybody decline so dramatically after just one match

Quincy K, it's impossible to compare those 2 fights. First of all, Floyd typically holds opponents to low connect percentages. Guerrero landed 19% on Floyd. Mosley landed 20% on Floyd. Ortiz 18% on Floyd. Marquez landed 12% on Floyd. Hatton landed 17% on Floyd. Cotto landed 21% on Floyd. De La Hoya landed 21% on Floyd.

Canelo not only produced the closest scorecard on Mayweather since DLH, but also had the highest connect % via compubox compared to all those guys vs FMJ. Canelo landed 22%.

But it also proved how low opponents connect percentages are vs Floyd. You're comparing apples to oranges. To give you an idea, Maclin landed 29% on Martinez. Murray landed 29% on Martinez. Barker landed a whopping 38% on Martinez.

On average, Floyd Mayweather holds opponents to much lower punch % than Martinez does. A lot of that has to do with Floyd's tight defense. It's certainly not comparable. Chavez only threw 390 punches vs Martinez. When you throw that few punches, it's not surprising that you get a higher percentage. Canelo was much more active vs Mayweather than Chavez was vs Martinez. Canelo threw 526 punches, 21 more than Maywather.

the OP is comaparing the two fights and not prior figths which is irrelvant to the thread. the thread is how sergio/chavez compared to floyd/canelo. connect percentages from previous fights is irrelevant to the discussion and not the topic at hand.

the topic of the thread is what i responded to and how chavez did much better than canelo in both connect percentages for and against as well as total punches landed and how these fights were not even remotely close in outcome or pyhsical damage incurred by floyd and sergio.

now that i have provided compubox evidence that chavez substantially outperfomed canelo who was the more physically succesful boxer that night, floyd who didnt have a scratch on him or sergio who had a torn knee, broken hand and stitches in both his head and mouth?

not to even mention the chavez knockdown.

you guys keep making your excuses for canelo but well all be back here again after he wins a disputed UD over molina where everyone will know that canelo is nothing but ordinary.

But it works both ways, and you are only focusing on the damage incurred by Floyd, and not considering the damage incurred by Canelo.

Both Chavez and Martinez took considerably more damage. Though most all the damage Martinez took was in the 12th round. He didn't take hardly any damage for the first 11 rounds. Neither Floyd or Canelo took very much damage. (Chavez himself was more beat up in that fight than either Canelo or Floyd were on saturday)

Mayweather Canelo was much closer than Chavez vs Martinez...except for the 12th round where Chavez nearly knocked out Martinez.

Martinez won 118-109, 118-109, and 117-111. Mayweather Canelo was much closer 114-114, 116-112, and 117-111. Chavez was much more desperate going into the 12th round than Canelo was going in the 12th round vs Mayweather. (because Martinez won most of the first 11 rounds clearly, unlike Maywather Canelo which were closer) Chavez was getting completely dominated by Martinez until that 12th round where he pushed for the KO and almost got it.

In no way was Chavez the more physically succssful boxer vs Martinez than Canelo was vs Mayweather. Again, you are comparing apples to oranges and it's an absurd comparison. For one, you are comparing two guys performances vs different opponents. Secondly, Canelo was closer to beating Mayweather on the cards than Chavez was to beating Martinez.

Chavez was desperate in the 12th round and it was one of the most exciting rounds of the year. But it was much easier for Chavez to catch Martinez in the 12th then it was for anyone to hurt Mayweather like that in the 12th. It just makes no sense to make this comparison.

Opposite except the Mayweather vs. Canelo fight was boring through out. Mayweather didn't beat Canelo anywhere near as convincingly as Martinez was beating Chavez for the first 11 although Canelo is better than Chavez p4p probably.

Mayweather vs. Canelo was by no means a domination as has been made out. there were a lot of close rounds.
