After cleaning out the SFW division Castillo was Mayweathers first proper fight at LW and it was against a champion who hadn't lost in four years, Castillo was no push over, World class and many were tipping him to win. Mayweather broke his hand but still managed to edge out a close win, but with it being close he did right thing and gave Castillo a rematch, this time beating him decisively. Mayweather was also only 25 at the time.

Calzaghe, at the age of 25 won the vacant lowly regarded WBO strap by beating a past it, weight drained, unprepared Eubank and then defended it against nobodies for 10 years. When he did finally move up he fought a 44-year-old career MW would had already recently lost twice to Jermain Taylor. After getting dropped and scraping a highly debatable SD win (much more debatable than Castillo/Mayweather I) he didn't bother with a rematch and instead fought a shot to pieces Roy Jones, a guy he previously said there was no point fighting he was so shot.

As Calzaghe said after barely beating Robin Reid - "I don't do rematches", unless of course you're WBO Intercontinental super star Mario Veit.

Calzaghe fans never fail to own themselves by trying to put down other fighters.

This thread is basically asking 'who's better, Joe Calzaghe or Floyd Mayweather?' - with the obvious answer to anyone with even half a brain being Mayweather by about a million miles.

Now if Calzaghe fans also want to argue resume and who beat who then I would suggest they don't bother, unless they want to embarrass themselves (which to be fair is something they are pretty good at)

 

Calzaghe cant make 154, or even 160 properly.

But if he could he'd do what he did at 168 and 175, and that was run scared shitless from any very good opposition, and that includes Mayweather. So the questions a non sequitur.

Perhaps if you reword it 'what would Calzaghe do against a 44 year old Mayweather' then you have a question worth debating.

He could adapt to low level opponents yeah in the way any good boxer can - though you have to ask yourself why he fighting low level opponents all the time when he was supposed to be a world champion. He was really a British champ or maybe eurochamp for all his years as WBO title holder.

Joe's 'adaptation' against good opposition was essentially just outworking them using a fitness advantage. He wasn't using ring smarts, he was using ring fitness, which is very different from adapting.

 

I think Calzaghe if he could somehow manage to make 154 while maintaining his attributes, would have the style to trouble Floyd. With Canelo losing this badly, I think outboxing Floyd is a sure way to lose, even if you're bigger. Volume and size and speed and feet. Calzaghe would probably beat Floyd, but it would really be a physical mismatch. One fighter 3-4 divisions bigger should beat the much smaller opponent.

I don't really see a skeletal 'Zaggy boxing anyone really. He'd probably win a few 'cos he had a (though I hate to use the term) 'winners' mentality.
