I think its a goood match up. Danny has very underrated boxing skills. And a lot of heart and pride. Also his father would check him if he felt like he wasnt giving his all. As far as the people who say Floyd would be making a Jr. Welter come up in weight. Floyd and Garcia both weighed in at 150 on fight night last week. Only Garcia was fighting at Jr Welter. And Floyd was fighting at Jr Middle. Stylistically how does this match up? Also how about a card of Mayweather x Garcia Broner x Guerrero Thurman x Jorge Silva Worthy PPV? Discuss.
Garcia has earned it over anybody else right now. He just has no shot at winning though, but who does?
In terms of paying his dues, Garcia has done more than most recent Floyd opponents to earn the shot and he'll give his all if the fight gets made. That said, he brings very little to the table to threaten Floyd. Floyd should be fighting GGG, Pacquiao, or Martinez over Garcia based on that, but he's likely either fighting Garcia or the Khan/Alexander winner(if that fight even comes off). As to the hypothetical card itself, it is decent.
why should Floyd be fighting GGG? or a guy coming off of a knock out loss. I'd love the Martinez fight though
GGG - Represents a decent threat in terms of size, style, and punching power, would be a belt in another weight class and Floyd has established himself as "the man" at 154 so this is a logical step up as a legacy fight. GGG is no Hagler by any stretch, but it would be a solid risk fight for Floyd to take. Pacquiao - Even faded, Pacquiao is still one of Floyd's biggest threats with his style, speed, and power. There is also the minor detail that he and Floyd would also still probably team up to have the highest selling PPV ever if the fight gets made. This is assuming that Pacquiao comes through the Rios fight without too much difficulty. Martinez - Also faded, but still "the man" at 160, and still represents a bigger threat than Danny to Floyd with his speed, size, and power. Same deal as GGG, a decent risk fight for legacy and a belt in another weight class. But instead, it'll be Danny or the Khan/Alexander winner, most likely Danny. And for most top fighters around the weight class, that would be a fine matchup. But for Floyd, the standards at least should be higher.
I already conceded about Martinez. I've wanted that fight for years and Martinez has earned it. GGG can't realistically make 154. He hasn't fought there his whole career and didn't even fight that low in the Olympics. He's simply too big. and Pacquiao would need more than a KO over Rios imo. The consensus on that fight is Floyd is choosing to fight Pacquiao now because he's damaged goods
Danny would try and box and that wouldn't work because he wasn't the better boxer going in to begin with

Though I'd take the fight at 154, my premise was that Floyd moves up to Middleweight to fight GGG. That's of course, operating under the pipedream scenario that Floyd actually cares somewhat about legacy fights, which he's proven time and time again that he does not. However, were he by some miracle to do this, then it's a nice legacy win, being a title in another weight class against an opponent with some threat value. Pacquiao is definitely a faded fighter from what he was, whether he's damaged goods is something we should get an answer on with the Rios fight. But if he comes through it without much trouble/looking reasonably good, the Floyd fight is viable. And he would still have a lot of the qualities in him that had people thinking he could beat Floyd. I think the fight would outsell Mayweather/Canelo still, and Floyd could at least say that he fought Pacquiao, even if faded, and I still would regard that version of Pacquiao as more dangerous than Danny. None of this is meant to denigrate Garcia. He's a very good fighter in his own right, and again, compared to the likes of Ortiz, Guerrero, and Canelo, he's done far more to earn the shot. But stylistically and physically, he brings nothing to the table to make me think Floyd has any real difficulty with him if that fight gets made.
