Is it just me, or does Jermain Taylor's win over Caleb Truax seem like a solid victory now? I remember Taylor getting all kinds of ridicule for being knocked down by Truax, but it seems like Caleb has become a solid, decent at worst, contender in his own right. Considering that was Taylor's first "real" test in his comeback and he dominated pretty much every round, aside from the knockdown round. That was a nice win for him and would have been something to build on if he had continued his comeback.
I was thinking this the other day when i heard Truax knocked out another guy. He has legit power. I think it was a solid win, all things considered.
I recently thought this too, Truax is really starting to show us something, and Taylor getting knocked down? Not that big an indication of Taylor's decline perhaps, but a clear indication of Truax's potential for sure.
BoxRec still has him ranked, but no word on any future fights. In 19 days, will be a year since his last fight. I am gonna assume he is retired now, but I could be wrong.
Taylor's solid performance may be mostly attributed to Traux's early lack of confidence. Once Traux realized he could hang with Taylor and hurt him, it was a different fight. Jermaine needs to stay out of the ring, his health has taken a toll and he's not the fighter he once was. He's a shell of himself in the same way Roy Jones is a shell of himself.
Don't really rate the win that much, but hey, could have been worse, could have been blitzed like Don George was. I agree with eastcoast that Taylor should stay out of the ring regardless. For that matter, Don George who never came remotely close to the heights that Taylor achieved should consider retirement as well.
Googling it a story on a website I never heard from before said in June he is preparing for a comeback later this year. Decent chance this website was wrong though. Yeah, hindsight, decent win.
