Probably offered 10 euros more in the signing fee than the likes of delahoya sautherland or di bella.......fair play
Well if he's signed up in the USA he has to have a manager than is not connected to the promoter as such. Well that's what I've always thought the rules were so he could of still signed with Goldenboy.
Boxing: Andy Lee gets chance to earn shot at Martinez This content is protected This content is protected Andy Lee is being lined up to fight Marco Antonio Rubio for the WBC Interim title 01 October 2013 IRISH middleweight Andy Lee is being lined up to fight Mexican war horse Marco Antonio Rubio for the WBC Interim title while defending champion Sergio Martinez recovers from injury. If the Limerick southpaw gets the fight he could then meet Martinez, who has beaten Lee's fellow Irish middleweight Matthew Macklin, when he recovers for the title. Martinez's promoter Lou DiBella said that Martinez will not fight again until early 2014 because of the injuries he sustained in his victory over Martin Murray in his native Argentina last April. Lee would jump at the opportunity if he gets the call from the WBC. "If the WBC were to order a fight between me and Marco Antonio Rubio for the WBC Interim middleweight title I would certainly be up for the fight," he said. "We are both experience fighters and have maintained our top-10 world rankings over the last few years. I think it would make a great :happy:happy:good
Not sure this is all that great news for Andy ....Rubio is a tough nut...he would hang in there against Andy..and Andy rarely looks good in the second half of fights...I have a bad feeling about what would happen after about five rounds when Rubio gets going and Andy fades...
Whilst i agree with your points this surely has to be seen as the most winnable fight for Andy for a "world" title and lets face it Martinez looks ready to be beaten aswell (if he comes back)thats why everyone wants his comback fight, Would love to see Andy get this fight.
Hard fight for Andy, but what's he in the game for ?, so exactly the type of fight he needs. Ya maybe the contest vs Spada would of been the ideal 'tune up'. Spada would of been a difficult test for Lee and would of been a good gauge for how a Rubio fight would go). It's winnable as long as he boxes to a game plan and comes in, in excellent condition. Rubio is tough as nails and will come forward for 12 rounds throwing big shots if needed so Lee will need to be capable of going the 12 in an attritional type fight if needed, because that's what it could become. Hopefully improvements under Booth would make the difference.
Andy needs a decent win (or two) against at least Spada-level opposition to get back some confidence in himself, and for his fans. It needs to happen soon. Hard to believe 3 or 4 years I had high hopes for Andy ..... Back then I would have confidently picked Andy over Darren Barker for example. How things have changed! Now I just can't see him going anywhere at all.....shame 'cos he is a really likeable guy.
