The boxing organizations and the demise of boxing.

Back in the day many boxing organizations were competing to become one of the top 4-5 boxing organizations.

First we had the WBC, WBA and the IBF and then there was the WBO and most boxing fans rightly regarded the WBO world championship as an inferior or a non world championship......... eventually the WBO however gained equal acceptance to the WBA and the IBF titles while the WBC has somewhat more credibility than the other three.

But then we had other organization that were competing for a spot in the world of boxing and some of them looked as if they would become relevant.

There's the IBO.... back in the day lots of fighters were taking IBO championships and the IBO even has a couple of valid champions today but it's lost all momentum and most of its champions are just IBO champions and not commonly regarded as world champions. The likelihood of the IBO becoming one of the big five or somehow a more sought after championship looks bleak.

Then we had the IBA. The IBA has had some good titleholders throughout the years but has never been regarded as a real world championship. Lots of fighters associated with Bob Arums Top rank promotions used to hold IBA championships and similarly to the IBO the IBA title was gaining ground but then for some reason just stopped in its tracks and fell down dead. I recall that there was some incident where the IBA didn't give a Bob Arum fighter the royal treatment and he made a remark that he was going to drop the IBA. Whether or not he did the IBA pretty much started going downhill from that point on and today has no legitimate champions.

The demise of these organizations has gone hand in hand with the demise of boxing and it's an interesting fact.
