To be honest, i believed that jones was the best 205 fighter of all time.

better than randy, chuck, tito ........simply the best. a totally different beast.

but after last night.....well. i have doubts.

if gustafsson stuffed jones takedowns, chuck most likely would have done the same. and lets face it, jones boxing is limited. if had plodded after liddell in the same way he plodded after chuck............that would have been a bad idea.

no offense to gustafsson, but i think liddel was a better counterpuncher and a better kickboxer. and i think he also hit quite a bit harder.

liddel in his prime was always gonna be a bad stylistic matchup for jones. and after last night i believe that liddel would have taken jones out with a counter.

    what do you think?

  2. Chuck Liddell was a glass jawed mega joke who got savagely knocked out by feather fisted Rich Franklin who had a broken arm.

Gus has MUCH better and quicker footwork than Liddel had. That is the most important aspect of his game that gave Jones such troubles.

He also has quicker hands, and crisper combinations.

Wow love this logic, Jones has destroyed every champion and challenger (that would of murdered Chuck at 205) before the Gus fight, now all of a sudden Jones is **** and we should forget his past victorys ever happened.
It's the same as boxing, it's a style match up. In a rematch Jones will probably train more at his wrestling and really commit to quick take downs and use that as a game plan as he did with Sonnen.

Jones would have Chuck out cold in 1 rd no doubt........Chucks wide looping punches would hit thin air with Jones in there.......no doubts at all........I think Gus hands Chuck his arse as well.

has sucking too much dick ****ed up your brain?? who the **** said that jones is ****?

and what the **** are saying about chuck?? the guy is in the ufc hall of fame. he holds wins over alistair overeem, randleman, tito, couture, belfort and so on. he was probably the biggest one punch knockout artist the 205 devision has ever seen.

and just cause chuck got knocked out towards the end of his career, that makes him **** or what?

chuck was shot and had no more chin at the end.

what would your ****in logic be? lets see: roberto duran lost to benitez. benitez ( when he was shot) lost to pat lawlor. so benitez was **** cause he lost to lawlor?? and duran must have been a real bum cause he was beaten by benitez, who lost to lawlor.

is that your logic? then you are a ******. go back to selling your ass on the streetcorner you veteran pisstaker. :good

Prime Chuck would be a competitive fight against Bones but Jones still wins

think you guys are exaggerating here. Jones had a tough fight but he still won clearly. His boxing isnt he greatest but all in all he has a very well rounded striking. Kicks, knees, elbows, you name it. He's not easy to hit either. I dont know how confident I am in his chin though. Never seen him really clocked yet, and gustaffon had him reeling a few times.

Chuck was from a different era. It wasn't that long ago in real terms but in terms of the way the sport has developed it was eons ago. Chuck held his hands low and landed a huge right counter punch in nearly all his wins. He sprawled and brawled and it worked for him but he would get ****ing schooled by Jones. Not hating on Chuck, he was the best in his time, but comparing a fighter from 5-6 years ago in MMA is like looking at boxers from the 50's. The sport is moving at a ridiculous pace.

Then why are guys like Barnett, Hunt etc still fighting at a high level? The sports not evolving for ****, it has gotten bigger in North America but Asia/Russia etc had better fighters around 6-10 years ago

Size is still an issue. Jones boxing is overrated but only if you overcome his size. His takedowns are overrated but once he has clinched you or taken you down he becomes dominant.

Gustafasson is huge like Jones. That inital size barrier isn't a concern for Gust and that is huge.

Liddells takedown defence and ko power makes him live.
