Kovalev would massacre Ward? Swarmers are always gonna struggle against Ward his inside games too good. I rate Kovalev but SOG is all wrong for him
i dont see ward ever taking this fight...when ward was in mtl to comentate on the stevenson dawson fight, i said it right then and there...this is the first, and last, time we are ever going to see ward in canada... ward ducked and avoided bute at all costs...bute was far from unbeatable, and took a pretty good beating from froch. i think ward just does not like to face south paws with a good boxing ability...i cant think of another skilled south paw ward has faced. no add that to the fact that stevenson hits way harder than the man that dropped ward(boone)then i dont see ward ever taking this fight... besides, the plan for stevenson camp, is like this in order....bellew, bhop, froch, big money fight and then kovalev kovalev they wanna milk the belt and credibility they have made for themselves...can you blame them, the guy is 36... hopkins stevenson is one fight im waiting for..then adonis vs froch would be really interesting...considering froch took to school bute who is also south paw but dont hit as hard as adonis....froch/stevenson would be fire works
:deal Ward would take Kovalev apart easy work. Atleast Stevenson has the length speed and movement that could offset some of Ward's boxing ability. Kovalev only has power and size for Ward to deal with. Ward would smother Kovalev's power and school him.
Stevenson's jab-steb back-left hand trick isn't gonna work against a smart fighter like Ward. He would get outclassed.
I'd like to see Ward move up and face both Stevenson and Kovalev. I think Ward beats both but they are more interesting than most of Ward's options at 168.
Ward will abosutely destroy Stevenson. Stevenson has one hand. One left hand, that's it. Ward will take that out of the equation. Stevenson also cannot fight on the inside for ****. He tries to do that Rigo/Lara style of potshot and grab, except it does not work with fighters that have superior footwork. Ward will get in on the inside and bomb this guy out with left hooks. He is going to counter the living **** out of this guy. Just go watch Cloud/Stevenson again. When Cloud got on the inside, Stevenson started to panic and got hit. He loses his focus, and you can almost see him freeze to try and decide on whether to hold or throw a shot. Anybody on here picking Stevenson is going to get clowned if this fight happens. And remember, Ward can fight southpaw too. And I still think he fights better as a southpaw.
Stevenson has speed and movement? What planet are you living on? The only speed he has got is with his straight left. That's it. The guy cannot move for ****. It might seem that way with inferior competition (or against a guy Ward just decimated), but let's not make **** up now.
Steveson can move what fight were you watching? The guy has above average handspeed as well for 175. With those two things along with his power and size he's a formidable opponent for anyone at 175. With that said I would still tip Ward to beat him because outside of PBF he's probably the most complete boxer in the game. He can fight at all ranges with a high ring IQ and good defense. But Steveson's athletic gifts would give Ward trouble because just like Hopkins, Ward isn't a great athlete.
Ward UD, although if he gets caught...not sure how good his chin is since he never gets hit flush. Stevenson's balance is not great and he cannot fight going backward. Ward would extremely utilize both these deficiencies and might stop him late. But, right now that fight will not sell, unless Ward goes North..
I can't pick between em at the moment, leaning slightly towards Ward on points as of now. Both guys styles are nightmares for each other, Stevenson is tall & rangy with long arms, when you try to attack he rocks back on that back foot & hits you with that dynamite left hand & if you try and stand-off he'll pick you apart from the outside & nail you with that fast left hand. Ward would have to get on the inside & would have to take some artillery getting there, thing is Ward has an excellent lead right-hand which is the best punch against a southpaw & once Ward does get on the inside he's almost impossible to keep off. Very good fight in my opinion.
Stevenson, and I'd hope it would be at 175, would be the hardest puncher Ward has ever faced. There is no questioning that. I love me some Kessler, but it is what it is. Honestly I'd pick Ward UD all day but depending on odds money on Adonis might be good.
