Got to take into account the level of opposition but I was impressed, his hands looked quick than I remember from before and just generally thought he looked very sharp. Fighting Derry will give us a better idea of where he is at in terms of reaching world level, if he takes him out with little trouble then I may start believing.

Is this a wind up? Can I add then that no one beats a fully prepared Kevin Mitchell.

Well, no one at the level he's currently fighting at.

Printer does that mean he may go past 4 rounds in a world title fight?
The opponent last night was fat and slow any top British LW would look great against him get a grip mate.

No world beater that's been proven but will be in some good domestic fights...Derry vs Kev would be a corker.

Encouraging performance regardless of opposition. Shot selection was terrific, looked sharp.

I think he's much better when someone else is leading off. When he instigates the work, his head movement coming in is poor and he reaches when throwing which I think got him KO'd v Burns.

You are right but it wasn't the reaching that got him KO'd against Burns, he tried to roll under Burns' shots and left the right side of his face wide open, a bad habit he has, you saw him continue to throw that left hook/body cuppercut combo and leaving himself open again last night

that's nitpicking though, for the OP, he looked pretty good, sharp and powerful, just has to stop trying to roll with shots against the ropes and leaning to his right too much, he's still open for those left hooks (his kryptonite)

so work still to be done but as somebody else said, encouraging

The opponent Marco Lopez was a pudgy natural super feather weight who had been brutally knocked out cold twice in the SFW division. This must be remembered when viewing this fight.

Mitchell did what i expected him to do against such weak opposition. Bigger tasks await at domestic level before another tilt at world level which Kevin Mitchell has not proven he belongs at.

He was fighting a nice record but nobody of note. Mitchell fights in a style that can look very good against lower level fighters but struggles against top level. He boxes, tucks up into shoulder roll, shows a nice array of combos, moves his head etc All looks great but then he struggles to put together a plan that utilises effective techniques on the top level. He is stuck in that position where he struggles to box or brawl against the best.

I think they should match him well against Brits who will move him forward enough to try and capitalise on a bogus title shot or weak titlist. Fighters like Matthews he could beat, maybe even Rees.

Mitchell fought well last night looked sharp & always has been a very good fighter.

He has had many a false dawn no more excuses now or never for him he just can't seem to live the life for any length of time at least he can look forward to some good domestic fights ahead with the paydays they bring.

Last chance saloon at Matchroom he shouldn't forget it either & seize the opportunity with both hands.
