Vlad Klitschko's legasy

119-104 with 4 knockdowns vs a top 3 guy who was undefeated and fighting in his home country.

I can not recall the last time someone scored just 104 points in a 12 round decision.

 

Congrats to Wladimir. Just dominated the # 3 heavyweight of his era. Wladimir is a clear top 10 heavyweight of all time. I am so happy. Wlad is my favorite fighter.

 

A very good performance

I think this moves Wlad into my top 10 as well.

 

Lets be clear here....beating a 34 year old heavyweight with just 26 bouts and no wins against even good competition does not elevate any fighter into top 10 status. Beating a great fighter such as Ali did beating Foreman in 74 and then Frazier in 75...the latter in a struggle where Ali showed all time will to win DOES.

 

If you were around here longer H, you would know that I had Wlad knocking on the door of the top ten well before this fight.

Given the quality of his last two opponents, I was still weighing it up.

But having beaten the second best (other than Vitali) at this stage of his career, and given the rest of his resume, I have him inside my top 10.

At this point, tenth, to be exact. I don't see a great deal of room for growth, but 10th isn't bad.

 

The highlighted part is fine-quality bovine excrement.

 

No wins against good competition?

The guy beat Chambers, Byrd and Chagaev, three champs. I won't include Rahman for a 4th since he was toast (tho still some were calling for the upset)

Whatever about being a fan of Wlad,but your favourite fighter,possibly the most boring Heavyweight champ ever,ranks just outside top 10 for me..

 

Povetkin hasn't looked good in years, hasn't beat a live rated opponent in years. Not sure this fight adds anything much to Wlad's legacy.

If you rate on fighters on the amount of years at the top, the number of contenders they beat, the number of title defences etc. .... I can't see how Wlad isn't up there with the likes of Holmes, Lewis, and just below Louis and Ali.

That's not necessarily the right way to rate them though.

Wlad won , but he left his valor, pride and dignity in the shitter.

A guy who boxes with zero class like Wlad will never be remembered as an ATG.

 

Povetkin was awful and Voidimir still looked horrific. Admittedly Void's legacy is a disgrace, but it's insane that people in this thread claim last night's cheat-fest added to it.

Voidimir did even more irreparable damage to his awful legacy by holding, pushing and leaning 20+ times a round. He is not a boxer. He is just a tall and heavy man who is popular enough in some parts of Europe to demand a weak referee.

 

I'm a white European so I really ought to be rooting for Wlad

Hs legacy though will be one of a disinterested public, turned off from boxing by some of the most negative, self preservative tactics ever employed by the so called HW Champion.

He'll be viewed by most as a former champion with a fluffed up record of fighting nobody's while managing to make his fights look cynical, frustrating and boring.
