Did Wlad's win help or hurt his legacy?

its hardly overrated. a lot of ppl are so blinded by mayweather hate they refuse to acknowledge how deep his resume is. great win over an ATG

 

I think it will help his legacy because in 50 years and more people will look at his resume and see he beat an Olympic gold medallist and undefeated fighter who is one of the best in the world right now, not many people will know the circumstances he won the fight in or the way he won it.

 

the w always looks good on paper. however, I think something like this can hurt your legacy for future fans actually willing to watch old fights. before I was a boxing fan I can remember thinking ali was the greatest simply because that was the general consensus. after watching a good many of his fights I realized he wasn`t the greatest and imo there simply is no such thing as styles make fights. the more post exile fights of his I watched the less of a fan I was, for ali like wlad clinched a lot and pushed down on opponents heads and necks. so ugly fights can tarnish legacy

 

Winning helped his legacy better than if he had lost atsch

Scoring 4 KD's on an undefeated fighter who has never been down doesn't hurt your legacy no matter how you spin it negatively.

I haven't watched a Wlad fight in quite some time but after all the chatter about the ugly fight that took place this past weekend I couldn't help but take a peak at the wreckage, I'm human.

I can understand and tolerate clinches happening given the strategies being used by both men. Wlad using quick feet, good jab and occasional stiff arm making Povetkin have to get inside quickly to counter Wlads footwork. This sometimes leads to bodies colliding which leads to getting tied up, and the usual clinch isn't a big deal because it can still leave openings to work with. This type of clinching did in fact happen and I was starting to wonder what all the fuss was about over this fight. And that is when the lunging reverse head locks started happening and it all became very clear as to why a lot of fight fans were so upset.

Seriously, Wlad would actually use this as a counter attack. Time Povetkins punch, go over the top of it with his arms extended reaching behind AP's head, secure the head lock and to top it all off he'd start peppering him with punches in this position. Please tell me those weren't the uppercuts that some fans were talking about when discussing Wlad's punch variations, I'm not sure since I turned it off after the fifth round.

It's the heavyweight championship of the world we're talkin' about, there should be a higher standard. That was straight up bush league.

Did Joe Lewis' "Bum of the month" hurt his legacy?

 

Unlike Wlad, Louis was a fighter though, he didn´t need that illegal holding and leaning onto his opponent tactics to destroy a fight. Luis wasn´t scared of anyone.

Not to mention he fought as many top 10 fighters in a year than Wlad has in 3.

 

Wlad is a rule breaking, disgraceful cheat. This 'win' has further damaged his already awful legacy.

 

A plus for his legacy, easily beating the #1. BUT, his tactics left an awful lot to be desired. He should have just stepped back and ko'd Povetkin, gotten it over with, pleased the existing fanbase and extended it. The fight itself stunk out loud.

 

How can a victory hurt his legacy?. He still took all his belts and went to the challenger's hometown.
