Povetkin was able to get inside against Wlad easily. And I wouldn't call Povetkin a good pressure fighter by any means.
give me tim witherspoon , michael moorer or bonecrusher smith any day over povetkin or manuel charr or david haye
When the crowd began to boo Floyd for running at the end , he went to engage Canelo straight away. He understands boxing is a spectator sport. He doesn't have to do the rope-a-dope but does so to raise his market value.
Heavyweight once upon a time was litte bit bigger than light Heavy. Then came the cruiserweights Its time to add another class for the bigger guys maybe over 220 or 225 pounds ? Klitschko vs Povetkin looked like a fight between two different weightclasses. Many young heavies on their way up have the size of a Klitschko
No, it's definitely a weaker era. It may not be the worst buts it's in contention with the worst era's. At best it's average and still far below the 70's and 90's. Tyson Fury is a legitimate top 10 fighter for Christ sake that tells you how poor the era is. When I struggled to pick 10 guys better than him it was a very sad realisation.
There has ALWAYS been huge heavyweights...size isn't the problem...if you add a superheavy division it will further dilute the ALREADY WEAK division. You'll have a division with only 5 fighters.:hi:
In prime form throw in guys like Bowe, Holyfield, Lewis, Golota and Tyson. Klitschkos would have their hands full, to say the least. Adamek beat old Golota... haha, imagine if 1996 Golota was in there. Klitschkos have no competition unfortunately.
I think in a way that the heavyweights are always underrated. I remember the glory days of the 90's and the boxing mags of the day ripping em' all apart which I never understood. I recall how the division was considered weak because a "blown up" cruiserweight named Evander Holyfield was able to compete in the division. That said, I think the division could be very exciting if the fighters got more coverage (fought for glory and more often) and the public could get to know the various personalities. There's lots of interesting fights that could be made but the fighters don't have that edge/aura that the fighters had back in the day. Everyone seemed to have a larger then life vibe and that made things exciting.
How about Joe Louis' "bum of the month club"? Klitschkos are the best heavyweights in the world today and that makes the haters very frustrated. They lie like Hell all the time. "SOUR GRAPES"!
Heavyweights are underrated. The division is loaded with skill and talent. Looking at top 10: 3 olympic gold medalists, 2 former CW champs, 3 undefeated up-and-coming contenders, one of the longest reigning HW champ in history of the sport.
No, this is arguably the worst era ever. Skills have declined as size has increased. Worst of all is the top fighter are fighting each other less and less.
