Should there be a zero tolerance policy against clinching in boxing?

Clinching is part of boxing but holding isn't and that's what Wlad does.

Of course clinching should be allowed, it is part of the sport. When a boxer is gassed or hurt he should be able to clinch to clear his head or get a bit of a rest. But when it is the major part of your gameplan it should not be allowed. You could tell in the first round that Wlad was going to clinch and push the guys head down every chance he got, it seemed to be a technique that he practiced a lot, and this was a guy a lot smaller than him. Never seen a champion so afraid to get hit. But it seems nobody can beat him so we are stuck with him

If you ban clinching it would be unfair to taller boxers on the inside.

A lot of people saying that a hurt fighter should be allowed to clinch without explaining the logic behind that? Why should you allow someone to cheat just to stay in the fight? The fighter that hurt the other guy is unfairly penalised.

Saturday night should never be allowed to happen again.

That snoozefest is outright bad for the sport.

If there was a ban on clinching, Andre Ward wouldn't be able to fight anymore. It a major part of his game. The same is true of Hopkins.

No but rules should be implemented as someone else pointed out referee in Wlad vs Brewster was spot on, he let a little clinching but no jumping on opponent. Any unbiased fan would realize this upon re watching that fight!
It has nothing to do with fact that Wlad lost that fight, Wlad would beat Povetkin either way but illegal moves should be stopped by referee!

    False.

Ward steps into guys with his guard high, slipping and blocking shots while hitting back on the counter. He can be in your chest roughing you up while you are totatlly clueless.
Froch was getting busted up so bad by Ward on the inside he looked to Smoger for help and was basically told 'tough crap, you're in a fight'. When has Wlad ever let his hands go on the inside?
If you think Ward is doing what Wlad is doing you know nothing about boxing and further proves you are just a fan of the Clinchko and nothing else.

Absolutely not. Clinching is part of the sport and has always been part of the sport. The PROBLEM in part is shitty refereeing. Back then fighters used to fight out of the clinch and there was much more impressive inside fighting. What Wlad does however, is straight up illegal. Repetitive clinching should be illegal especially if its coming from one particular boxer. But well timed clinches are PART OF BOXING.

Tons of ATGs are shameful huggers. That's why I don't take ATG lists seriously. I would love to see guys like Ali handle someone like Tyson without holding, he would have 0 chance. No matter how you put it, holding is illegal.

clinching, holding and hitting has always been a part of boxing, the old timers did it,
but they did it ............oh so eloquently.
Wlad looked like he was holding on for dear life, Ruiz probably had a tear in his eye over
that performance. But at least Wlad mixed in some stiff shots along with his grapple fest.

Clinching is taught by good trainers. Lewis did it a lot, watch Lewis vs. Tua for example. Not to mention so many others, such as Void..........

If you are knocked down or clearly rocked you should be allowed to clinch. If you are about to get rocked. But you shouldn't be clinching more than a 5-8 times a round, it should be penalized if the fighter is trying to use it as part of their strategy to jab or hit and clinch
