He was top 5 in the world at cruiserweight in an era with the likes of Jirov and Gomez. He was a solid champion but boring as hell and so unwilling to engage. His fight with sellers was fun If I remember right.
He had less than a 1,000 fights and I just named three fights that were very good performances, and in no way truly horrific to watch...
His book is a decent read. He's filled with self doubt, even now, so I guess he did well to turn his career around and have a decent run of fights. He's grown on me as a pundit recently.
Nelson is very underrated, He was better than Glen McCory, for sure. I feel He was put in over His Head to early.
Yes his book was a very decent read very honest in his shortcomings mainly the mental doubt in his own ability & for those interested in those days good insights into the Ingle camp & fighters.
Disagree with this. It was clearly a few levels better. He beat Carl Thompson who went on to beat David Haye.
after watching Nelson v De Leon live on TV. I never wanted to watch Nelson fight again. Alot of deserving fighters never get a world title shot, and you get Nelson, who was scared even throwing a jab in that fight. Disgrace.
