Not true. Was on a fight-by-fight deal with Coldwell. A simple phone call would surely have been sufficient?
Completely baffled by this move. Unless a truck load of money has been offered for meaningless fights I cannot understand why. As for the way Coldwell has been treated, that is inexcusable.
for all those going on about the way Coldwell has been treated nobody knows what gone on behind the scenes between the two..for all we know Derry might have a legit beef. Hearn by giving him the Woodhouse fight which probably shouldn't have been made was fattening up Derry for Mitchell to feast on IMHO....Derry probably knew the plan and thought fcuk it I'm off...even with the probable loss Derry could still have been recycled again by Hearn which I'm sure fast car was planning but Derry had other options
Why do people assume if Mathews lost to Mitchell he would end up on the scrap heap? He is always in exciting fights and people will want to watch him.
Nowhere really to go, Derry needs to be earning as much as he can, if he loses to Mitchell he goes backwards again. Maybe he can earn a few more quick from this move but I doubt it...I would have stuck with Hearn and taken the Mitchell fight, but I dont know all the in's and outs!
9/10 I'd advise boxers not to move from a Sky/Hearn platform to ******/Boxnation but Derry has just made a very smart move imo. He had no real security or guarantee he'd continue on Sky, after a loss to Mitchell and a rematch with Crolla it could possibly have been it for him wheras now he has 5 fights for good money(if he gets paid of course). I like Derry and always want him to win but at this stage Rees, Crolla, Mitchell and prob a couple others are all above him in terms of ability, smart move to take the deal and eventually go the Euro title route.
Derry fighting Stephen Ormond next happy days just seen that there . http://www.irish-boxing.com/2013/10...ve-fight-ormond-says-derry-is-perfect-for-me/
