Im not talking about boxing as we know it. But boxing is fighting with ur fists. Which pre dates boxing.
#1contender, why would you assume some "***" decided it is about not getting hit? Modern boxing -- and by that, I mean since boxing's rebirth in England enturies ago, has always been about hitting and trying not to get hit. "The manly art of self-defense" etc. As a gay man whose amateur record was 19-4 with 10 KOs, I think you're a fool to use the word ***. I still train at a gym used by pros, and the pros never are homophobic. The ones who say "***" are the losers who never had the balls to climb through the ropes. The fans and wannabes. The soft, pudgy, remote-control-wielding armchair boxers. Know what I mean?
Not two all-time greats defensively, but you make the point that it's the sweet science -- lest why did these guys both fight in a crouch and bob and weave (Frazier more than Marciano, but Rocky moved his head)? Why didn't they walk in straight up? Because they were trying to minimize getting hit, or to get hit less solidly. Before the term Sweet Science was coined, it was termed "The Manly Art of Self-Defense," not offense. So it was always about both sides of the coin.
It's been ages but when I watched some of Rocky Marciano's old fights back in the day I was simply amazed. He had such good technique. I think that if he was around these days that he'd easily deal with many of our eras light heavyweights.
I think heavyweights are supposed to be more macho although some of the midgets try their best to give it the biggun as well, but the klits have kind of turned even heavyweight boxing into hit but not get hit. so many world champs these days perfect the art of hit and not get hit but it was like that with Ali all those years ago and then Tyson came along and brawled now it's the klits = hit but not get hit. maybe in a few years we will have someone who likes to be an animal again like most fighters were in the olden days, maybe Tyson Fury and people like that will bring the machoness back.
I think that trem is restriced to boxers of a certain style. I mean ray robinson was great at stsying away but he brawled as ferice as any. Same with leonard.
Lol. I think this post is great for the use of "machoisum". What are they teaching you in school? You're obviously like 12 years old. Look up boxing history to answer this post. Say, goo-gle.
are you trying to say that at the beginning they werent supposed to duck or get out the way of a punch if they could......:blood
Yep, especially Wladimir has some great wrestling tactics, ain´t boxing though. I give you that on Vitaly though, he´s a real fighter.
I guess with the money in boxing now and it being seen as more of a grand spectacle it makes more sense to hit and not be hit in order to prolong your career and maximise your earnings. Most fighters will be hit enough in an accumulative sense over the course of their career without needing to take severe punishment in any individual fight unless it's punishment they can't escape from. It's hard for fighters to win these days, see Tim Bradley for example - he slugs it out with Ruslan, takes a lot of damage but comes through and gets called stupid. He plays chess with JMM and comes out the victor, gets called boring. I mean where do you draw the line?
