ROUTE TO THE TOP. kHANS OR BROOKS???

I am a big fan of both boxers but have noticed their careers have been managed totally different. 1st we have Khan that was fast-tracked on the back of his olympic showing. His career was carefully guided, finding weak opponents to get him to the top as quick as poss. Once he reached the top he then had the realisation that he didnt belong there after all.

On the other hand, we have Brook who again has been carefully managed at a much slower pace but 1 that is definately progressing. Each opponent seemingly better than the last and if he continues to win, will no doubt result in a title shot.

Yes Khan has won numerous world titles, but now at the age of 26 is already seen as a shot fighter or 1 that cant compete at this level.
Meanwhile we have Brook who is heading towards his 1st title fight, and seemingly on the up. Granted if Brook looses he might never get the title shot but surely if he is not ready then this is for the best.

My question is WHICH ROUTE DO YOU CHOOSE??

 

Yes Khan has the money and yes he has won world titles, but at the age of 26 his boxing legacy is seen as a joke. I, like you, would choose the cash etc, but im no boxer. Are the days of wanting to be the best gone??

 

Khan was rushed to the top with no regard to what happens when he gets there. Now we find he doesnt belong there, it will be a fast road back down. ( Some even talking about retirement already ). My point being, should Khan have taken a more steady route to the top(like Brook) and given himself the best possible chance of succeeding or was he right in cashing in for all he could while he could.

 

Hear you loud and clear. Khan at this point in time is leaving Kell behind. But i liken it to swimming. Whereby Khan has sort of been thrown in at the deep end and while he has shown he can keep himself afloat he is still lacking the basics. On the other hand we have Brook who, to keep with the swimming theme, is doing the armbands, floating aids, breathing, and learning the strokes. I cant help but think while Khans route will bring fast cash, Brooks route will bring longevity.

 

Brook is a family friend who lives in the area and went to the same school, so yes slightly biased. But the boxers are irrelevant really. While boxer A has the cash, cars, fame etc, he has also been found out at this level. His career is downhill from here IMO at the age 26. I think this could have been avoided had he learnt his trade on the way up. Dont get me wrong, Brook's route is not risk free!! If he finds out early on that he also doesnt belong at world level, then he comes down the slope also but without the cash, cars, fame etc. So back to the point in question, which route is best??? I cant help but feel Brook will be in a better position when he gets to the top than Khan was.

 

I dont see khan's career as a joke, but to be on the decline by age 26 something must have been wrong. IMO he was rushed to the top, not because he deserved it but because he was marketable. Upon reaching the top he has been found wanting. Yes he won titles and beat some "big" names, but they only became "big" names after their displays vs khan. Prescott, Maidana, Peterson and even Garcia were hardly household names when he fought them. Again i am a fan of Khan but just feel his career would have had a better chance of longevity if he had followed the Brook route to the top. Iron out the problems early on vs good but not elite opposition. Brook found himself wanting in the Jones fight but rather than move on and avoid likeminded fighters, went back to the gym got the rematch and put the record straight. Now in Brooks mind he knows he is ready for the next level.
