Even though the news announcement looks official, I'm not convinced until there's some sort of "contracts are signed" statement. Gomez signed the contract to fight Ortiz back in August(for a September date), and was willing to wait on Ortiz once the Expendables gig came up, but Ortiz never signed the contract when they wanted a firm date on the fight to plan ahead. I don't think Ortiz's focus is really on being a boxer anymore.

That said, if the fight does come off for December 14th, it's a good matchup for both fighters and a good action fight guaranteed. Both fighters are coming off of long layoffs and consecutive losses, Ortiz is a talented brawler head-case while Gomez is a well-rounded boxer with average physical ability but good intelligence, heart, and chin. I think Gomez will try to counter Ortiz on the outside with his better boxing ability and combination punching, while Ortiz will try to do his usual, land his straight left and right hook bombs in a brawl. The fight should be competitive in any case, but taking Gomez by late stoppage in an upset if the fight happens.

Victor Ortiz is giving Andre Dirrell a run for his money on how to become totally irrelevant.

Not really. After the Lopez TKO he went on dancing with the stars (or was it before :huh) and now he will be in The Expendables 3. Not to mention those shitty commercials he did.
And Gomez has a name plus it will be on a stacked boxing card with big names all around.
It´s the right way to come back.

Much better fight than Molina, because Ortiz can win. Should be a fun brawl.

Both of these guys have not fought in ages. I think both have only duelled once in the last 3 yrs each. Ortiz is lucky the Molina fight fell through. Debuting at 154 lbs after 2 yrs out against a titlist is madness.
