You could write for days showing examples of where the seemingly more talented fighter has lost to a seemingly inferior opponent. Technical skill alone is not always enough, there are many other factors. Padwork means nothing....its practice. We talkin bout practice!? Tons of fighters have been gym superstars. ...tons have looked great in the ams....tons have torched lesser pro comp.....tons have shown superior technique. ....and yet only a tiny percentage ever become great. Talent doesn't ALWAYS win. History disagrees with you.

 

Hold on there buddy . . . grandmaster greenland knows his **** and we have to believe that Rigo can handle any fighter in history because he has a great ams background and does exceptional padwork. this pad work has taught him to neutralize any style . . . Rigo is the GOAT (because greenlands word is good as gold):deal

 

Honestly I see zero faults in Rigo's game. He has everything. Absolutely everything. He just needs to be more accomplished in the professional ranks to be considered up there with the best. But he just fcking blows my mind, and I was rooting for Donaire on the night.

 

Yes, he has a great ams background - Im glad we agree with this. His padwork is also awesome. And he has one of the best wins of all active boxers, which he got within 11 or 12 fights. You seem to agree with everything that his supporters say, yet you also seem to disagree with them? Weird dude.

 

Somehow when I saw a hashtag in the title I knew it was going to be ridiculous.

I'm a Rigo fan and it can certainly be argued he's the greatest amateur ever but let's just leave it there.

Mark Breland should have just retired after a few pro fights and we could've lauded him as an ATG on the back of his amateur exploits.

I remember a few years ago sitting in a gym while a reporter interviewed Eddie Papa Smurf Futch. The reporter introduced Eddie & called him a boxing expert. Eddie grinned & said " Me a boxing expert no I'm still learning the game" Eddie was 82 yrs old I believe & had spent his life in the game. Don't make any more silly statements

Boy you hit the nail on that ,one thing you will learn here is people are more fans of fighters than boxing. If you like a fighter your branded a nut hugger if you make a honest comment your a hatter ,but every now and then you do get some nice post.

 

To be considered an ATG you have to have a professional resume worthy of such recognition. The only guys in this era that can be called ATG's are Floyd, Pacman, Hopkins, and possibly Marquez (I'm on the fence with JMM.)

Rigo is a very fundamentally sound fighter, excellent technical ability, but he hasn't done enough since turning pro to be considered an ATG. That's just a ridiculous statement to make.

I even have a problem with him being mentioned as a top 5-7 P4P guy, because the P4P guys have to be excellent fighters over a long period of time. Every other guy mentioned on a P4P list have at least 25+ fights on their resume. I like Rigo a lot, but he still has a lot to accomplish on a professional level for him to receive such high admiration.
