That was great. It showed off everything- the Napolesian footwork, the concentrated body attack, the hard punch. Thank you.
Oh sorry man - I didn't realize it was Vimeo. We can only embed Youtube videos here. We used to be able to embed DailyMotion as well before all the recent changes, but not anymore.
I met Freddie Steele when I was 12. Was going out charter Salmon fishing in Westport, WA. Was at his restaurant in town. He was old and punchy, but he had a smile and a couple younger good looking gals by his side. Everyone called him champ.
He is posting from near Haugen's neck of the woods (but on the other side of Seattle) but no, he is just a fan.
I B. Are you sure it isn't the tough old LW Greg Haugen ? Everything adds up including Freddie Steele owned a restaurant in Westport, Wash. ?
Well if that is Haugen in the flesh then he fudged his DOB when registering the account. Most likely this gent is just a contemporary for whom Greg was a local hero growing up.
Just a fan of a local tough guy (Haugen), who got the best out of his abilities. My grandfather introduced me to Freddie Steele in the late 70's. My grandfather attended the Steele/Hostak title bout in 1938 that was watched by 35,000 Seattle fight fans. A couple of local Middleweights, Steele from Tacoma, Al Hostak from Seattle. The fight was refereed by Jack Dempsey. Al Hostak, if I remember correctly took out Steele in 1 round. Though Freddie had seen better days by this time. Some great fighters came out of the PNW during this period of time.
Greg Haugen was one tough fighter. A throwback, who when I first saw him looked so much like Harry Greb facially...
