It's unfortunate that in order for him to get real recognition, he needs to move to 168.

The guy barely cuts weight to make 160, and people want him to go up 8 pounds. He'd probably be 170ish on fight night.

The other problem with a move up is that while GGG can box well, his power is the main scare factor. Power often doesn't translate up a division, and moving UP to fight an incredible boxer like Ward could be disaster for any puncher. This isn't even to mention his seek and destroy style that is far harder to employ against a fighter bigger than you.

GGG can beat the Froch's and Kesslers for 168, but for a puncher to move UP to face a guy like Ward is a LOT to ask.

Golovkin is the one who says he'll fight anyone at 168. So I don't see what the problem is. I have no issue with him staying at 160, but it's no issue either for fans and the media to talk about him fighting at SMW.

I know GGG says anyone 154-168.

I'm saying 168, for a PUNCHER, to go up to fighting one of the best technicians of this generation, is a bad idea.

No, he's not a natural 168...that being said, he a ****ing talented boxer with monster power.

Do we really believe chavez or bika can touch him??

Ward was 176 vs dawson...GGG was 170 for macklin. The size differnce isn't that huge. Ward never been hit like that.

Froch is a face first caveman..and he's not that heavy.

He SHOULNDT be competing at 168..but he can.

Forget 154..floyd, canelo, cotto will go nowhere near him.

With GGG's overall skill and workrate, I think the power will translate better up to 168 than people expect. And, while power itself doesn't always translate during a move up, his power is exceptional enough at 160 that he'll still be a damn hard hitter at 168 even if there's a small drop off.

The reason I look forward to a Ward fight so much is that Andre has the ability to bring out the best out of Golovkin and push him to levels he's never had to reach. People who think Ward schools him think that the Golovkin they see today is all he is. I disagree. I'd argue that he's so dominant with the cards he's played that he hasn't had to take his game to the highest levels. Only when he faces another legit P4P fighter will people will see how special a fighter he is.

Agreed. He doesn't have the physical dimensions to beat the best at 168, imo. (Unless hes significantly better then I think he is) Hes just not a big guy.

I don't get this fanatic craze fans have to see every fighter jump divisions needlessly.

Fighters should move up because theyre too big for their current weightclass, not because fans want to see them fight guys bigger then them for a challenge.

How long did Hopkins stay at 160?

How long did Hagler, Monzon, stay at 160, etc.?

Golovkin wants to fight Martinez and Quillin, has been calling them out.

Stevenson has been calling Ward out, but Ward will not even respond. Kovalev would love to fight Ward. However, Ward will not fight outside his home town with his personal referee, judges, boxing commission, ad infinitum. Ward refuses to take a PED test..................gee...............I wonder why?

Brinkley predicted that Golovkin would easily beat Stevens and Ward..........

Agreed, fair enough if he was younger but he's 31, going up to 168 would be a big step at his age.

Ideally I'd like to see him drop to 154 and end Broner's career.
