Fighter of the year 2013?

There is not clear front runner at the moment to be honnest. Floyd has the most solid wins probably though. People just expect too much of him.

 

How did Danny Garcia have the better year than Mayweather????

I can see edging the Matthysse win for Garcia as Matthysse was seen as slightly better P4P than Alvarez heading in by most but when you factor in how the fights went and the rising up in weight for Floyd, I don't know if that's the correct choice.

And anyone who doesn't think the Guerrero win is much greater than the Zab Judah victory must not be too familiar with either of their careers and where they were at in them or is simply trolling for a laugh.

 

I don't see that as the better win at all. Matthyse had tasted defeat on more than one occasion in close fights. He was not the champion at JWW. Canelo on the other hand was the undefeated lineal champ at JMW.

Also take into account that garcia fought matthyse at his best weight. Mayweather had to fight canelo at a much higher weight.

In my opinion the canelo win is clearly the better win. Canelo beating Trout is better than Matthyse beating Peterson.

 

Hmm...Guerrero beat the mighty Berto and that's supposed to make him a quality opponent for the #1 P4P fighter?

Canelo is 23, how can he possibly be at the peak of his career? His one top level victory is Trout, and that was not hugely convincing.

TBH Floyd beat 2 guys he shoulda beat. To me that doesn't make FOTY, not only that, he only had 2 fights. Look, Floyd gets his reward by being a HOFer, by recognised as possibly the greatest of his era, but for what he did in 2013? Not for my money.

Equally Bradley and Garcia, for the reasons you point out and once again for their lack of activity, are, to me at least, not massively deserving.

The years best win was probably Rigos over donaire, but again it's only one win, and beating Agbeko (even convincingly) isn't enough to make him FOTY.

GGGs 4 KO wins are impressive, but the level of competition (except Macklin) was less so.

For me, depending on the outcomes of the 30th, it has to be Stevenson or Kovalev.

 

Guerrero moved up to WW and beat 2 top 10 opponents in that division. Undefeated Aydin and Berto.

Ask yourself which is the better win. Mayweather against Guerrero. Or Garcia against Zab judah lol

Before the Mayweather fight Canelo was the Lineal champ at JMW having beaten and dropped the undefeated Trout. That was the peak of his career thus far. We can't talk about the future because he hasn't arrived there yet. But at that point Sky was the limit for Canelo which is why he got the Mayweather fight.


You never answered my question about which other guy moved up two weight classes this year and defended their titles?

 

In 2013 Stevenson beating Darnell boone who lost 21 times, then Ko'ing Dawson who previously got TKO by andre ward, then beating cloud who previously just lost to Hopkins then fighting Bellew who biggest claim to fame is losing to Nathan Cleverly does not make you fighter of the year by any stretch of the imagination.

None of Stevenson opponents were coming off impressive wins.

 

Bradley or Garcia

 

Bradley deserved the win in a close fight ffs. It was close but clear.

He's the one that has impressed me most this year.

 

Why would mayweather be fighter of the year? LOL He outsparred 2 b-rated fighters! LOLOL Whopeedeedo. Give it to GGG!

 

Guerro isn't a great fighter, not nearly, and was tailor made for Floyd. Canelo is overrated and fought the worst fight he could have. Floyd should get the easiest fights of the year award but not fighter of the year!

 

And GGG beat 4, C-D-E-F rated fighters LMAOatsch

i really think adonis might have this, or a good shot at it....4 fights in 2013

1st- rematch with boone..really nice ko, stunning boone with an uppercut leaving boone out on his feet, then stevenson landing the big left to put him away

2nd- moves UP in weight to face dawson, who was the lineal champat 175....destroyed him in what will most probably be Ko of the year

3rd- then defends against another bigger name, cloud...everyone thought it was roughly going to be even cuz cloud can bang, alot of ppl thinking cloud gonna catch adonis....but adonis dominated cloud like never before...leaving cloud to quit the fight in the 7th round

4th - is bellew...which is on the same level as cleverly..if you watch cleverly vs bellew you will see they are almost the same fighter lol...i dont see this as being competitive, but when stevenson gets the win i think it will play a role in how he wins the fight...spectacular win gives him a good shot at foty...but a close fight and decision would def put him out of the race...if he fought a bigger name than bellew, like froch, and won, then that would be foty for sure imo...but bellew is mandatory

 

Tough call for me it's Danny and Adonis.....solid wins where they both showed toughness, durability and skill.

 

Because most people are idiots. This is proven in every sphere of life. Who is more commercially successfully - ****** Bieber or Leonard Cohen? The same holds with boxing. Heavyweight is the worst division and yet the one that always gets the most attention. The further down in weight you go, the higher the quality but the greater the obscurity. Inversely proportionate, and it sucks. People suck.

That makes no sense whatsoever. How is that an issue? Basic formula: two men of equal size in gloved combat. I fail to see the problem...unless they're slow, in poor shape, gas easily, prone to excessive clinching...basically all the stuff you find in the uppermost divisions.

You've answered your own question there. Why on earth you shunned anything under lightweight is mystifying but if you found that 126 and 118 to be 'hidden treasure' in the sport, then you should keep digging. All the way down to straw. :good The best stuff in boxing occurs @ or south of welterweight. The middle range (junior/middle/super) is good but not as good. Everything north of 168 I honestly could not care much less about.
