Williams was the greatest of all time at 147? Really? Tommy Hearns would have murdered Williams...so would SRR, SRL and many others. I was a PW fan but let's be realistic here. Quintana freakin beat the guy at 147 and you think no other welterweight in history could have?

Yeah, Williams is the only one of this generation that I think stood a chance of beating Mayweather at Welter.

Mayweather is way too fast for PW, and much, much smarter. I see him keeping his distance, staying on his bicycle and winning a easy 12 round decision. I can't see Williams being able to cut off the ring to land anything flush, this fight would probably be similar to Quintana Vs. Williams I.

paul williams was HUGE... but he fought dumb.. did not even utalise his natural height and reach.

mayweather would have outboxed him and made him tenative... wev seen guys with better chins go gunshy on mayweather and almost everyone he faces he HALVES there punch output...

sorry i see the potential on paper that pwill would have caused him trouble but if you know both fighters he does not seem to bring much to the table

edit: the one guy i have HANDS DOWN beating mayweather is tommy hearns... now sure pwill might have the height and reach like hearns but he did not know how to use it like hearns.. also hearns outboxed sugar ray so we knew the guy had an IQ (again unlike paul)..

^ this... forget naming atg's like hearns robinson and leonard that could beat pwill, that goes without saying .. when you start name dropping guys like quintana who actually BEAT pwill you start to see he clearly does not belong there with the greats

Williams is way too clumsy Mayweather would see his shots coming

Williams had no head movement Mayweather woulda landed lead rights all night but he would be made to work very hard, Mayweather coulda lost a couple of rounds when taking a breather

its funny how most you guys are praising this guy
when he wasn't anything special at all, just a regular OK fighter

    massive double standards

if this guy was a european from russia or a brit youd be saying he was a glass jawed bum

    admit it
your only praising him cause hes black and cause most of the guys inthis genereal forum are black geezers

he was able to keep up and even beat prime sergio in their first fight, this was a risky fight that floyd also didn't want.

EVERYBODY is a threat to Mayweather until they get in the ring with him. We've been hearing this for 45 fights now? TBE! Now middleweights want a piece of the money pie. Screw GGG, RJJ, Hopkins, Martinez ... it's Wlad v Floyd or bust.

I disagree. Irrespective of how dumb Paul fought (for not taking advantage by using his reach), he made up for much of it with workrate. Not even Maravilla could completely shut Paul out in their first fight at 154. It was extremely close and that was with Maravilla landing heavy clean shots and throwing many punches. Mayweather is simply too conservative with his offense and too small for Paul. Furthermore, Mayweather does not have the power to put PW out like Maravilla did in the second fight. Paul Williams out works, out points Mayweather. No shame, PW was too big to be in the division anyway, a freak of nature if you will. This would have been a bad matchup for Mayweather because of his conservative workrate and null chance of KO'ing PW due to his style.
