I was watching Jones vs Ruiz, and Toney vs Ruiz, and started to think, Could Joe beat Ruiz and become the heavyweight champion?

Let's look at some facts first: :deal

Joe is taller than both Jones and Toney.
Joe is also faster than Toney and is just as fast as Jones, if not faster.
Aside from a couple of KD's, Joe has an iron Chin.
Last but not least, Joe is a SOUTHPAW.
The biggest disadvantage is Joe is a CLEAN fighter. Toney was Juiced TO THE GILLS, and we don't know about Jones.:huh

I say Joe would box his way to a UD, with a couple of dangerous moments. Maybe stop him on cuts because of his fast shots.:good

Do you guys think Calzaghe could of became the Heavyweight champ?

If Jay Nady is the referee of course he can as he will nullify Ruiz only 'skill' which is the Jab & Grab.

There is a reason that Ruiz is the ONLY Heavyweight 'champion' to lose to 2 former Middleweights. Think about that for a second. Shows how awful Ruiz really was and how he was targeted by Jones and Toney for having no skills, power, anything. :rofl

Jones and Toney both had the power to hurt Ruiz and keep him honest, Calzaghe didn't, Jones and Toney, one way or another, were both very hard to hit clean, Calzaghe wasn't. Ruiz laughs at Joe's slaps, walk straight through them and brutally knocks him out very, very quickly.

And no, Calzaghe is nowhere near as fast as prime Roy Jones.

tallness doesn't make you more skilled, or Adhul Karim Jabbha would be GOAT.

Joe is fast as the cost of accuracy, he misses most of his punches when he increases his speed - Jones is faster than Joe but also point accurate.
You are arguing against Joe, not for him.

you should say he has great recovery, in fact he has been floored SEVERAL times.

    so? Ruiz beats SPs.

a disadvantage if anything, you are again arguing against Joe winning.

to a Joe nuthugger he couldda done everything.

To everyone else theres a reason he didn't.

Joe will go down in the fight, but I highly doubt Ruiz can keep him there.
I don't think Ruiz can CounterPunch at all. On top of that there is Calzaghe's workrate. John has never fought someone who can throw a 100 punches a round.
    :deal
A Calzaghe win, would set up a super fight vs Haye!:bbb

First point is... that Ruiz is only 2" taller then Joe. Unlike James who was 5'9"

    Speed kills period.

True, Joe is at a disadvantage for being clean.

Joe was only dropped 4 times in 46 fights:deal

No nutthugger, I just know my boxing and Joe's skill set.

If you are ever going to pick Calzaghe to beat a HW it might as well be Ruiz. Hell, maybe a fat Duran & Sugar Ray Leonard could have beat Ruiz too. You know if Ruiz fought in the 50s, Maxim, Moore, Olson, Harold Johnson, and Robinson would have tapped that ass for sure.

Ruiz wasn't all bad though, he did beat Oquendo, Johnson, Rahman, & a Holyfield who was fresh off a strong performance against Lewis, even if the matches were unwatchable. Ruiz/Golota was a fun fight though.

    your point failed first time

that's why Amir Khan is HW champion of the world, true. Such a **** argument.

usually when he stepped up, true. Ruiz IS a much bigger step up. still a good chin though, but never great.

then why don't you display your knowledge since you haven't yet.

This is no more the era in which a light heavyweight can become hw champion of the world, and it will never come back.

Calzaghe's chin was clearly shaky at LHW, at heavyweight it would be pure glass.
