why the hell were people only chanting gomez?

people love a underdog!!!!

 

People watch TV and the contender. Cottos fan base is the boxing community and some puerto ricans. His personality is too dull to ever get that kind of appeal. He has a bland image that you cant really market that well.

 

Mexicans have alot of kids. It was probably his family and some of the dishwashers and cleaners at the press conference! lol j/k

 

Because people like rooting for the underdog. In a way, everyone expects Cotto to win and many have written off Gomez easily; a bit to easy i may say, so that gives people a sense of "oh no we may have another upset". Last time we had someone written off in a fight easy was Williams vs Quintana, and we know what happened in that fight. Also, i think people were kind of surprised that Gomez looked bigger standing face to face against Cotto. I think Cotto is simply is more talented in about all areas. You can argue that Gomez has a lot of heart and determination, but so does Cotto - when has he shown otherwise? Cotto takes it by decision.

 

Most people cannot relate to a supertalent like Cotto, so they cheer on the mediocrity instead.

 

Maybe it is because Gomez is not a tramp.

 

I mean I like the guy but he has about as much personality as a paper bag, great fighter but if your not PR then he doesn't give ya much to work with.

 

Maybe you are deaf, but they first chanted "Gomez, Gomez" then "Cotto, Cotto" and at the stare-down "Gomez (Cotto), Gomez (Cotto)!!!"

 

Yeah I heard chants for both.
