For them to be boxing on the same card but not against each other would be such a waste. I don't think they'd build up any interest at all, Murray is not the flashy kind of fighter that looks spectacular against lesser opposition.
I can see GGG braking him down with body shots but this is probably the toughest challenge for Golovkin in the MW division.
Exactly, it's a big waste. We're left to wonder what kind of top 15, top 20 opponent they'll find for Golovkin. And they're probably going to put a completely incapable fighter in front of Murray. Picture this... Golovkin vs Mora Murray vs Ayala Very disappointed in all of this. There are big bucks in Monaco, they can do a LOT better than this. The only thing I would care about would be Mora going down for all the sh1t fights he's been in over the years.
Agreed. He can make decent money fighting Barker, Macklin, and Lee and not take a devastating beating.
Mora or N'Dam (or even Soliman). Honestly those are better fights. Both will present lots of movement and speed and give us yet different look into Golovkin's arsenal. Where Murray would've been a replay of Ishida and Macklin. GGG needs some ring time with those kind of fighters given his eventual fight with Ward. Thought there was something to Mora having a fight next week on the Ward undercard.
Yep. Murray would have been yet another brickwall for Golovkin to break for a bit of a wow factor. I'd take N'Dam out of the list, though. He's said no to Golovkin twice before.
Murray won't avoid Golovkin, he's a warrior. Probably just showcasing him on the same bill to promote a fight later in the year.
This I'd put money on the two facing by mid 2014. This will probably be a tune up match against somebody like Andy Lee for Murray with a shot at GGG in May/June.
Meh. Murray has a tune up in a week or two. One he put together at the last minute at that, he could have gone straight to GGG. Guess after he checked the rules in Monaco and discovered he couldnt take that bat in with him he bowed out. Pity, I was quite hyped about that matchup.
i love these stories "confirmed fight for feb 1" Tom Loeffler, Managing Director at K2 Promotions - there is no truth to a Daily Mail report that WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s February 1 title defense in Monte Carlo will be against two-time world title challenger Martin Murray. “There is no truth to that story,” Loeffler said. “We have offered a fight to Murray in the past and they have not been interested.” Golovkin is scheduled to fight February 1 in Monte Carlo, but the opponent is not finalized.
