Mikey Garcia best 25 and under fighter in boxing

He looked very good last night, alright. But you have to take the standard of the opponent into consideration. That guy he beat was very ordinary....

 

Broner is a better under 25 fighter than Garcia...by far..

 

Wrong. Their dad, the trainer of Robert Garcia/Vargas, has had much more to do with training Mikey than Robert.

 

Definitely good, should be interesting to see if he turns out to be the next big thing or ends up losing to the next big thing, as I am not 100% sold on him being the next big talent, time will tell. What I really like about him is that he seems really mature for such a young fighter, however, he's been exposed to the game all his life so that definitely helps.

Yes he is. And yes, he is an american citizen. But still, he is Mexican. When a German shepherd is born in the US it doesn't become an American Shepherd.

 

Why do some of you have an issue with these type of things. Garcia is a Mexican born in America. He speaks Spanish(as well as English) and is well steeped in his Mexican culture. He comes into the ring dressed as a Mexican from Mexico and calls out to MIchoacan and Hermosillo at the post-victory interview. MIckey is a proud Mexican-American. Accept it.:deal

Back on topic MIckey is one of(if not the best) fighter below 25 and don't hold his heritage against him. Anyone can
be a fan.

 

I worry for mikey a little, robert is now becoming his head trainer again. His father is taking a back seat and letting robert train him. Like freddie said the father is the one who knows boxing the best. he created robert, fernando and mikey and made them all world champions. according to freddie mikey was becoming an ordinary fighter until his father took over and made him the perfect boxer puncher. robert lacks the knowledge to teach someone how to be a boxer puncher, he's trying to adapt but i don't think he will ever be as good as the dad. once the fathers influence wears off slowly but surely roberts natural ideas of taking the fight to the opponent will again take over and that could spell trouble for mikey.

mikey also seems to be someone who is very level headed, doesn't get involved with boxing politics too much. he's already complained about how its too easy, he's even mentioned retirement. he said that he wants to be world champion at 135 and 140, but once thats done he's happy retiring.

135 against gamboa and crawford then whoever at 140 then it could be it for him.

 

Mikey-Uchiyama needs to happen soon.

No. Broner isn't really an elite boxer.

Broner should have lost to Ponce de Leon and he struggled to a close decision over a faded Malignaggi (Hatton and Cotto both dominated PRIME Paulie).

We know why you believe Broner is superior to Garcia. You should get past that and evaluate boxers fairly and objectively.

 

This is ignorant. Your upbringing makes way more effect on a person's psychology than their ethnicity. Only untravelled and uneducated people think the contrary (obviously having done no research). Mikey is a Mexican-American, or more broadly, an American.

And Im not sold on Mikey yet. But as for the 25 and unders, he SEEMS the most promising right now. Clearly the most technically sound, but I dont know how much that will count for in the future.

 

Ignore Pibby/Blizzblizz. He has an overriding racial bias. You cant change his ethnicity, so you cant change his opinion.

Im not even fully sold on Mikey, but we all (the boxing community) agree that Mikey is the most promising young gun going into the future. Canelo is his opposition but I see limitations abound for Canelo. Mikey has yet to show any significant limitations thus far.
