i always hated Bhops and felt he was always over rated on these boxing boards..
but the last 10 years he has driving a knife right into my chest.

the dude is a phukin beast and what he has done at this age and continues to do to me is the greatest achievement in sports.

that pains me so much to say but the dude is truly unPHUKINreal

Hopkins deserves alot of credit for what he is doing, at the age that he is.
I believe his strong discipline has kept him firmly in the mix. Not letting his weight balloon, staying in shape all year round and being careful with what he eats. I guess if someone runs 10 miles everyday for years they dont suddenly turn 50 and find they cant do it when they could the day before, but its being willing to do it everyday and being that disciplined. Amazing achievement

In some ways he doesn't get enough credit - from the sports/sports science community as a whole.

In other ways though, he gets too much - from boxing fans who have him in their p4p top 5 when he clearly is not of that ability these days.

Yeah I think he gets due credit. And a part of the credit is him being exempted from being criticised for being the most boring guy in boxing. And he's also rated as one of the best of this generation. it wasnt because of anything he did in his prime, it's simply because he's been able to sustain himself for so damn long.

I ain't a fan, but BHop is something unique - the only fighter today who I'd say without hesitation belongs on any ATG list. Oldest champ in history, and a dominant force at the top of the game for coming on 20 years when 'primes' are often just a year or two.

Outside of boxing circles and fandom, perhaps he doesn't get much credit, but look at it this way, there surely ain't a boxing fan on earth who doesn't know who he is.

Bernard hopkins should go in the page of boxing as the archetypal ungifted, unskilled fighter who dedicated himself to his craft, with all the setbacks of prison and losing his first fight. He is the example, that anyone can b great in this sport if they truly dedicate themselves and use wit and intelligence understanding their own body and its capabilities.

Its amazing to see far far naturally gifted and skilll fighters lose to this man or not have their rankings in boxing history near his. Hopkins can retire with a smile knowing hes conquered unbelievable odds.

Considering he is almost certainly drugged up to the eyeballs he gets far too much credit.

You talk like Hopkins is some kinda Rocky Balboa, the fact is that Hopkins is a highly skilled and intelligent fighter, prison wasn't a setback but the start of his career in boxing and anybody can't be great in this sport. It takes a special kind of person to do what Hopkins is doing. I don't think Hopkins is amazed at what he's doing. It has always been his game plan and he has always been up to the task, Mentally and physically.:bbb
