New Rule: You Can't Say That GGG's Resume Is Weak

Nah just noone got attention in MW other than Martinez and JCC. Objectively weak skill-wise, and subjectively weak perception are two different things.

140-147 just got a ton of attention because of PAC/FMJ

Looking at the skills of most of the fighters, 160 is just as strong skill wise overall it just didnt have the star power to bring the same spotlight. Star power, not objective skill is what brings attention and speculation and "big" fights and is what MW lacked compared to WW, not actual skill or talent.

 

Or down to 154 and clean that division out, then go up.

 

there are a lot of guys floating between 135-154. the attention isn't just because of those two.

but "weak" i guess is more of a general description. like i said, martinez is out. so other than ggg there isn't top tier talent. i think ggg beats anyone out there at mw currently fighting. yes that would improve his resume for sure but again, there aren't the guys fighting like there was when pavlik won the title and then when martinez won the title.

 

abd now they are gonna reward Murray a WBA belt for the same thing....not fighting GGG :-(

 

Actually it can go both ways. You could have a weak resume and be ducked by top fighters. If your resume is weak, its weak, even if its not your fault.

I don't think Golovkin's resume is weak though. Its not the best in the division but he has some nice wins and in impressive fashion. Proska, Ouma, Rosado, Stevens are decent enough middleweights and Macklin was a top 10 maybe even top 5 guy. I'd say he has a solid but unspetacular resume at this point.

I also don't think the whole division is avoiding him. Macklin fought him and Pirog would have if not for an injury so there's two contenders willing to face him.

Golovkin didn't really break through as a top middleweight until this year or maybe late last year and some of the other top guys have fought other contenders in the same time frame.

Martinez and Geale have been fighting other contenders in that same time frame. Quillen is on Showtime so that fights not happening anytime soon.

Sturm seems to have really tried not to fight Golovkin. Chavez and Murray, to me, is still undecided. So amongst the top contenders you may have a couple avoiding Golovkin but a number have either been facing other contenders, injured, network issues, or were willing to face him.

Maybe behind closed doors all these fighters are scared to death of Golovkin and wouldn't face him for any amount of money, But right now I don't think Golovkin has been a top fighter long enough to say he's being avoided by everyone.

 

People always forget that GGG was signed to fight Pirog before Pirog injured his back. Pirog is a very skilled fighter who I think would beat guys like Quillen easily. With GGG, I think the top guys didn't fight him because there was no $ in it. That is changing with each fight GGG has. If a top guy turns him down now, it looks bad.

 

I agree GGG is trying to fight the best in his weight division. He can't force guys to fight him. I also don't think the middleweight division is weak. There are a couple of stronger divisions but there are more that are about equal or weaker.

 

His resume is useless and he's getting ducked. I don't see how these are mutually exclusive.

Sorry! The road to greatness doesn't work that way. If that was the case Archie Moore, Jack Johnson and Sam Langford are the greatest that ever lived period! Archie wasn't given a chance at the LHW title until he was 39, he held on to it for 9 years. Imagine if he got a shot at 30 years old. He could have held the title for 18 years. Jack Johnson was made to wait for his shot too and once he got it, he held on to it. Poor ol Sam Langford never got his shot but, Jack Dempsey once stated that there was only one man he would never face and that man was Sam Langford. So trying to pump up 3G is meaningless. 3G should destroy anyone that steps in the ring with him and do it in a manner that demands respect, for example fight once a month, even if the guys he is fighting are not top shelf. Just make a show of it to showcase his skills and after every fight call out the top guys. He needs to do something dramatic and memorable, although his ko's of some guys are dramatic and memorable. He needs to get more popular and get the support of the fans behind him. With his crowd pleasing style it won't be too difficult to do.:bbb
