On boxrec as Joshua's next bout. I'm excited about this one. Of course it should be another routine Joshua win, especially since Avila has taken it on short notice but Avila has been in with Chisora this year and provided a bit of a test and this should be a good bench mark. Joshua looks to me like he has a lot of ability and could be moved along quickly. EDIT: Joshua is no longer fighting Hector Alfredo Avila as originally scheduled he is now fighting Danny Fleary. Discuss.
.Avila 'tested' Chisora because Dereck seemed to just want to go through the motions and get through that fight rather than actually win it. The smallest bit of ambition late in the fight and Chisora managed to stop him (finally). Avila has since gone and had some bad results, won a UD over a 6-1 fighter after Chisora, but got knocked down in the process. Stopped in 1 by a 13-0 unknown Brazilian, and recently a comebacking 43 year old Marcelo Fabian Dominguez stopped him in 7. Frankly he's a level above Butlin, but not an opponent to get excited over. He'll go within 3.
Avila is awful. It's only his durability that gets him this fight. Chisora was woeful against him and frankly didn't seem bothered. Like the above poster said I expect a 'British' stoppage in the first four rounds for Joshua.
I'm not going to say Joshua is up there yet and yes this guy probably looks a bit better on paper but we all knew that Joshua was going to be in the mix domestically in this golden era of British heavyweights. This will be a good indication of how good he is and I hope on his way up we get to see him against the likes of Lewinson, Sprott etc. guys who would be doing well in the domestic scene if not for the current strength of it. I think some are getting carried away, unfortunetly fans always seem too quick to hype up and write off fighters, buit at the minute it appears the sky's the limit. What I will say is I'm not as convinced as most about his chin, that will trouble him some time. He was destroyed in the final of the world championships and somehow only lost by a point and some on here, who obviously didn't watch it, claimed a robbery.
Beating Hector Alfredo Avila will give NO indication of how good Joshua is going to become. Awful fighter.
Ageed. Chisora carried Avila for 9 rds to go a few rds and made it into a sparring session. Avila is another blown up Cruiserweight for Joshua to look good against and has been knocked out in the 1st rd in four fights and i expect him to be knocked out in the 1st or 2nd rd against Joshua. I'm definately not on the Joshua bandwagon, he's without doubt a good prospect and has some skills but i see so many flaws in him that no amount of gym work and experience will ever fix and i expect him to get knocked out once he moves to a certain level above Journeymen and British fighters.
LOL, I remember getting excited because the young Lennox Lewis (9-0) was fighting Jorge Dascola, who was coming off a gutsy 11 round defeat to the then world ranked (top 5/6) Michael Dokes. The result: Lennox Lewis KO1 Dascola...
I have just seen it on Danny's facebook. I boxed Danny earlier this year in the amateurs. He is tough as nails and I will be excited to see this.
I boxed Danny earlier this year. He beat me on points. Obviously this is a huge step up but I think for a round he'll be in there to have a go and will cause some problems.
Danny is another blown up Cruiserweight! Joshua should be ashamed of himself, it's not like he's a small heavyweight either but they're already protecting that glass jaw of his against the smallest light hitting blown up cruiserweights possible.
I could make 200lbs, and I suspect I hit lighter than any future Joshua opponent, so your statement is wrong... He has had three quick fights. Twenty fights, three years down the line you may have a point, but for the moment and indeed the next year or so his opposition mean little one way or the other, quality wise.
