It's not about one style being better than the other, it's about which style suits the fighter best, both physically and in terms of his mental make-up. A guy's mental state is very important. To box like Ward or Mayweather takes a level of patience and relaxation that most fighters, even great ones don't have in their urge to 'get at' their opponent. Is that patience a character strength or could you say it's a weakness born out of fear to get hit? Probably something in the middle. My point was, no fighter likes to get hit. Some are more willing to take chances than others it's true, but again, that's also because they don't have the physical and/or mental skills to be just as succesful without taking those risks. Or do you seriously want to claim that JCC and Rocky Marciano would have been just as great if they had tried to box and move like Mayweather? Do you really think that Abdusalamov would have willingly 'entertained' himself into a coma if he'd had the physical/technical skills to beat Perez without taking all of those punches? There's a reason that the ultimate blood and guts warrior, the late Arturo Gatti was a great admirer of Mayweather and after having fought him went on record to say he was going to try too box more like him.
Newbies aren't allowed to have serious opinions about boxing? I joined in 2008 myself, buut i was a boxing fan loooong before that. Weak post, and i don't even agree with with the TS.
LOL, the idea is not to "exchange", the idea is to hit the other guy and not get hit. They can't all be Arturo Gatti.
Basically what I'm saying is my barometer for an exciting fight is usually determined by the amount of clean punches landed. Since this fight was not lacking in that regard at all, I can't say I was bored with it. Now when people spend the whole night hitting nothing but air, it can get very sleep inducing, but that simply wasn't the case tonight. The ref even got clipped lol... Also I don't think there was anything wrong with Wards offensive output and I think he may be turning the page as far as that is concerned, he looked much more aggressive out there tonight and in the Dawson fight than what is par for the course for him. Much more exciting to watch than PBF IMO..
I reward dominance. Andre's currently one of the most dominant fighters in the game along with Floyd and Wlad, two other guys who've had the "boring" label stuck on them. Fighters who dominate and are always entertaining rarely exist. It's just not realistic to expect it.
No he's not boring. Just because guys don't take turns taking shots to the chin doesn't mean they're boring. It's called boxing. The other is called rockem sockem.
I agree:good It was an exciting fight with some drama, thanks ref, and he unloaded that left like a machine gun all night:admin :smoke
Great boxer ward ,but I'm not to into his fights find the holding inside quite frustrating, but his technique is brilliant and he's the best! But I won't buy a ppv when he's headlining it!
