Interesting observation. By 1987 both men had slipped by a similar amount. Around 1980-81 both were about as great as they were ever going to get. it would still have been a very close bout.
I get a bigger chuckle from the people who seriously pick Hagler to win against a guy generally considered to be the best fighter EVER.
Robinson was not necessarily the best Middleweight. One of the best of all time but Hagler is also right there among the elite fighters ever to grace the 160 lb division.
Apples and Oranges. Hagler not close, at either Middleweight, or p4p. No one ever stopped SRR, and Hagler certainly can't outbox the guy.
Ray was offered this fight time and again in the very early 80's and he wanted zero part of Marvin ... it was only when he saw the slowed down version of Marvin against Mugabi that he decided to come back and make the fight .. yes Ray was inactive but he was still the younger man with far less wear and tear on him .. prime for prime Hagler would have crushed him ..
You have shown Hagler bouncing around and beating up 2 tomato cans in Sibson, and Mustafa Hamsho, and seriously expect people to believe that shows he would beat Ray Robinson? Man, let me have some of what you're smoking.
robinson was at his best as a welter weight.he wouldn't dent hagler who is the best middle of all time.
Robinson was the greatest box fighter of all time. Full stop. He would take Hagler, and any other Middleweight since his own era to school.
Robinson was the best welter of all time and one of the top three middles in my opinion. Along with Hagler and Carlos Monzon.
I think you need to find some footage of SRR at WW. Tommy can box or fight, he still loses. So does he Leonard, and Hagler at Middle. Ray Robinson could do it all excellently, fight off the back foot, front foot, stand toe to toe, box, counter, every part of his game was excellent, not just some of it.
