Froch was getting hurt throughout the entire fight and the ref seemed to have an iron jaw perception.
Terrible stoppage, but how the **** can anybody point the finger at Froch ffs ? He was in control of the first round, gets ****y and walks onto a right hand that would have KO'd a lot of fighters, he drops heavily but still comes back fighting. People have been blinded by the Bute performance, what we seen last night was a typical Froch fight, where he's beaten to the punch, and struggling to find his range, before grinding the opponent down and starting to land big shots. That was vintage Froch in there, he was never going to outbox Groves, or KO him with one shot. Groves did exactly what i said he would, i said he'd he'd have early success, and that he may buzz Froch, but i also said i thought Froch would get to him by the 8th round. Great performance by George (exactlty as expected) and a ****in awful finish to a good fight, but anybody but the most biased hater, or ****in idiot knows that Groves wasn't going to see the end of that round. I had Groves 3 points up at the stoppage, yet some thought he'd won every round atsch
Agree. Froch got battered, but the guy is tough as ****, and survived long enough to be rescued by the corrupt ref
I counted 4 clean shots on the slow-mo with nothing coming back, ref has a job to do BUT groves looked ok to carry on.
Jeff Powell a reporter summed the fight up well Bull**** stoppage but... Froch was as heroic as groves was sensational Froch mustve been fighting on instinct after the first round, if that knockdown was 30 seconds earlier the fight wouldve been over. Froch should avoid a rematch and avoid GGG like the plague.
I was rooting for Froch but even I thought that was a terrible stoppage. Groves was clearly hurt and may have very well been stopped that round but we will never know. We were robbed of a conclusive result.
Terrible stoppage, but there was no standing 8 count in the the fight. Groves should have gone down on a knee. Rematch has to happen, Booth in Groves corner could have made the difference. Froch is just an arrogant ****
i have always been told to never turn your back on a fighter as this can give the impression to the ref that your hurt , groves did this
I'm surprised all those chin checker dick heads aren't starting threads about frochs 'glass jaw'. definitely a premature stoppage. can't blame froch for that though! groves really impressed me, but his style was always going to trouble froch. i think the ref let his perception of each fighter influence his actions, i.e.. froch is an iron bearded warrior, he'll get back up… it wasn't equal treatment
What referee will grab the defending fighter around the neck and take him away and thereby getting Groves hit in the body as a result. Usually you grab the attacking fighter or Stand in between them........
After some deep thought. It was a terrible bad stoppage. BUT! Froch could well have battered Groves for the next few rounds, even if he did not look badly hurt/rocked etc. As per the cards, Froch would have probably won by split decision. By having the premature stoppage, Groves' stock rises greatly, he's not badly hurt and can come again. Froch holds onto the belts but loses a lot of respect. The sport is hurt a bit as a result. Think about it though, despite losing, Groves had a big moral victory, he looked awesome in there, he would have won a hell of a lot of fans. How often do you see a fighter turning the crowd like that? I had it 2-6 with an 8/10 for Groves. Groves only had to last until the final round without a knockdown to win on points for me. The two judges cards were far different to this however. Was Froch' given rounds for blocking punches with his face and showing a good chin? Based on what happened in the 9th, the ref should have stopped the fight in Groves favour after the 4th round. Groves is the real champion, the peoples champion at least. He took the fight to a unified champion, gave him hell, did everything he needed to plus more, he even turned the crowd. Most people gave him no chance at all.
That may very well have been one of the worst stoppages I've ever seen and I'm a big Froch fan and not very familiar with Groves. I saw the fight differently then most I thought it was very close, I had Groves up 5-4 upon first look but their were a couple rounds that I gave to Froch which could've easily went to Groves. None the less it was a great competitive fight with a shitty ending.
