A trainer can only do so much.. not his fault that Rios is a limited fighter.

 

Doesn't take brains to know R. Garcia is a trash trainer anyway. However, Rios is a one-dimensional fighter anyway, he fights one predictable way and always did his entire career. There's nothing Robert Garcia could do for him.

 

It really is stupid to shoehorn the roles & duties of a head coach into a set pattern of expectations. "Oh, they should always do XYZ, and have a plan B when there are signs of struggle with the original approach..." - no.

What is necessary varies depending on the match-up, the fighter, the chemistry they have, and many other factors. What is good for a particular goose may not be for another particular gander.

Each coach brings their strengths and must then customize & tailor what they bring to what the fighter needs, as best he can. Sometimes the coach is at fault when that doesn't work, and sometimes he isn't. Sometimes he does his best with a bad situation and nothing more could be hoped for.

 

Just watch the fight again. Watch Rios ringwalk. Both Rios & Garcia had the look of condemned men going to the gallows. Garcia KNEW Rios was going to take a sustained beating. Rios was being made to pay for the way the Garcia gang treated Freddie Roach.
Manny did what he promised. Id have loved to have seen Ariza get a good ass whuppin though that scumbag has no place in any sports

 

For what Rios can/can't do in the ring with his abilities, I'd give him a pretty good score. That's as best as Rios was going to get. He even said himself that had he opened up a bit more and threw more punches, he would probably get knocked out himself. Garcia did the best he could with what he had.

He did great with Gradovich though! That " F*cking Mexican-Russian" hits hard! lol

trainers cant fight for fighters. all they are is a second pair of eyes. not magicians

 

If people were expecting to see something different from Rios last night then they either have no boxing IQ whatsoever or have never seen Rios box before.

Garcia did what he could with a very limited boxer.

 

how long has Rios been working with Garcia for?? I would expect to see at least a few changes within a few fights of having worked with him. but Garcia is not an old hand as a trainer so give him time to find his legs.

Just remember that its a learning game for the both trainer and the fighter.


The whole situation at the gym when the teams nearly came to blows was just another lesson that needs to be heeded so it doesnt happen again. it just caused a distraction for the fighter and a headache for the Trainer. The trainer was the most affected of the two however:deal

PAC sacrificed power for speed & accuracy & was nowhere to be found in an exchange.
(Brandon couldn't cope & took a different type of beating than they expected)

Roach didn't out-coach anybody. Pacquiao did what Pacquiao does. Rios did what Rios does, which is all he can do or will ever do. Pacquiao is too fast and Rios too slow and inaccurate. They could have swapped trainers and had the same result.
