    Lesson to the wise:
Guys, when making a deal don't make the mistake of overpricing yourself
purse offers that are minimums are just that, minimums.
Be smart and stick with numbers, that make sense to you and to the promoter. Because higher numbers might cause the promoter not to use the kid because he is too expensive for certain shows. Trying to be too slick you are actually, costing your fighter fights.

Wait to see if your fighter progress upward in his career before asking for a little more? Makes sense to start small and work your way up.

Fighting in someone's hometown, fighting the house fighter, brought in as the opponent, fighting an unbeaten hotshot. These are all scenario's that recently came up. A guy I advise is fighting an unbeaten hotshot fighting in the guys home turf, and is definitely the house fighter. Uh oh! My guy said "Even if I win every round I will get robbed".
My job as the manager/advisor is to look for an opportunity for my guy, one in which he has a chance to win. I told his manager, look if you accept the fight, don't go thinking you are going to get screwed by the judges. Go in there thinking this is my chance, my title fight, my chance to make a name for myself. Go in with a plan, find out all you can about your opponent, see if there is something that you can take advantage of. Most times a house fighter thinks he is too good to lose to an ordinary guy, they prepare like they always do, my guy has to train to the next level this is his shot, his chance. Work on a plan a strategy something that might give you an edge, and then go in there and fight your ass off. I also lay it out, this is boxing, and s**t happens, you might get robbed but think of it like this, a loss could turn out to be a win, people will see that you gave a well thought of hotshot a great fight, which may open other doors for you, for a possible rematch for more money, or for more fights. If you go in there thinking "Oh, it's in his hometown, he's the house fighter, blah, blah don't take the fight you already lost in your head. An opportunity should be grabbed with both hands.

Too true....only have to look at our big fight here & the joke stoppage in the Froch-Groves fight.

Who actually came out with their reputation enhanced Groves without a doubt fought a great fight.Does it open more doors for him absolutely every fight should be seen as a chance to showcase what YOU have.

Many examples of it really going the other way young fans out there youtube Minter-Hagler as a great example of going into someones backyard & taking that opportunity.By turning all the advantages on there head you yourself can become the A side fighter, draw & the money it can bring.Be positive in how you fight & just as important your mindset nothing is given to you in any walk of life opportunity knocks & as a fighter you only get so many!

Well fights do have controversies with endings & stoppages let alone fighters quitting & managers, trainers pulling them out.

One fighter actually made a commentator quit step forward Randall 'Tex' Cobb & his 1982 15 round hammering at the hands of Larry Holmes.26/11/82 Howard Cosell had called over 3,000 fights was so disgusted that the one sided beating wasn't stopped he quit afterwards. The famous line being the referee is helping tonight in bringing forward the abolition of boxing.

You have to bare in mind this came off the back of the Mancini-Kim tragedy two weeks prior & 15 round fights were being talked of as being too long & gruelling.Cobb was a real character he said afterwards Cosell quitting was his 'gift to boxing'.He also said he would then take up football (NFL) if it made him quit calling that as well!

Cobb was born in Texas & moved to Philly anyone that has been there would tell you a real rough fighting area.He said of it 'even the wino's know how to throw a hook!' Fighting out of Joe Fraizer's gym he was known for being outspoken.

The after fight press interview alongside Don King a particularly memorable moment.
Cobb covered in bumps, cuts & bruises put his arm around him & told the scribes
'Hey guys my purse was cut by 200k just before I got in the ring by this lying, cheating M/Fer!'He also then went on to say he wanted a rematch with Holmes but 'his (Holmes) hands couldn't take it'.

He fought Sonny Barch some years later & won by TKO which was soon overturned into a no contest both fighters had tested positive for cocaine with allegations of a fixed fight which Cobb sued for.Unusual to say the least was Mr Cobb.

He became a actor after his boxing days & appeared in many films a loyal friend to those that knew him he actually cost himself a fight with Ali after defending a journalist friend in a bar brawl. He took such a sustained beating he suffered a broken arm tough guy Cobb.He would of been the last man to probably face Ali as he faced Trevor Berbick instead......guys it wouldn't of been a great fight but imagine the verbal sparring Ali v Cobb would of been something special.

A local ticket seller and his father decided that the pay they were getting was not enough so they told the promoter, "Look if my son doesn't get paid he ain't fightin'", the promoter needed the fighter on the card. The promoter agreed reluctantly but he was already plotting revenge. Two guys had come in from El Paso, about the same weight they were scheduled to fight on the card one against the ticket seller and the other was in as a favor against another fighter. He asked the trainer of the two unknown guys from El Paso, who was the better guy. The trainer told him, "the boy that's fighting the ticket seller is alright, the other boy is a beast, you don't want to fight him with your boy". That's all the promoter wanted to hear, he switched opponents on the ticket seller, the beast fought the ticket seller and sad to say the ticket seller never fought again. Be careful what you ask for you just might get it.

Doesn't Uncle Sam also get a cut from a fighters purse? Doesn't the fighter have to report his earnings?

How is it that Floyd is getting paid double any other fighter in boxing? How is his deal so sweet?

Alright Dempsey. Another question. Once I sign a fighter, what is the best way to get them fights on other folks cards? Locally and abroad. Glad you are not charging for this. :)

Floyd gets paid cos he is great "A" side but he needs a strong "B" side to draw the money he does. Who besides Cotto gave Floyd any kind of fight? Floyd cherry picks his opponents, I believe for the most part people want to see him get beat. Floyd's fights are boring. Floyd is a p4p today, but all time great fergitaboutit, imagine what a prime, SRR, Hearns, Leonard, Benitez, Duran, and Hector Camacho sr would have done to Mayweather. Floyd takes on the same type of fighter each and everytime, an aggressive puncher, with no clue how to fight Floyd. Really who besides Pac has the speed and ability to beat him, or even to make it a good fight. Amir Khan, doubt it? Danny Garcia, he's young and strong maybe with a little more seasoning.
Since 2006 Floyd has not fought anybody that had a shot to beat him, is that cos he is that great or is it that there are no real opponents out there for him?

The best advice I could give you is to be like a door to door salesman, you have to knock on doors.

I dont disagree I was just giving the dumbed down version of why he makes ridiculous money...i agree he hasnt fought anyone but he is also supremely talented those fights with the atgs are prob 60/40 fights not for floyd imo he definately isnt the greatest like he sells him sell to be but he has played the salesman card well.... also he ducked this **** outta pre eye injury cheatarito but that is another story for another time i believe...also paul williams could have given him a decent fight due to the matchup style wise but thats prob it and a prime cotto

Jasper, I agree he is supremely talented and really who besides Pac will give him any comp. I had forgotten about Williams and Cheatito, you are right those guys might have put some dents in Floyd's greatness.
