Groves was getting caught more often than he was in the first 7 rounds but thats it. Groves has greta survival skills he would've gotten a second wind and continue outboxing that crooked nose hoe.

 

An early stoppage yes, but Groves would get hurt afterwards. No doubt about it.

 

Froch was chasing him around the ring landing combos the previous 30 seconds.

Can't believe how people are saying Groves did better than Ward. Groves might have been winning most the rounds, but was outworked in some and Froch was landing his own good shots and flurries on the ropes in each round. Then he hurt Groves and was bulling him around for 30 seconds in round 9 before the finish.

People should watch the fight again without the shock and emotion of the live night and ignore the British commentary.

 

yep those 30 seconds were horrible for Georgie. He was getting his head torn off, and the fight would have been stopped probably if he'd kept going in. He was clearly a better boxer than Froch but he wasnt tough enough to keep wading in for 12 rounds.


Like I said, had to opted to run, he would have won the fight, but he was stupid enough to want to keep mixing it with the toughest smw on the planet even when he was getting rocked. very bad idea.

If he gets Calzaghe type fitness and aims for points, he would take the rematch IMHO. But it is a very stupid idea to maintain a game plan on trying to stop a golem like froch.

 

in life its all about expectation and no one expected groves to look the way he did in the early rounds. but it seems as if most people were in love with groves early work that they stopped judging the fight objectively.

at the time of the stoppage, 2 judges had it 76-75 in favor of groves. that is a one point difference; the fight was a lot closer than you think.

i think it was round 6 when groves landed a flury, if you looked at his body language after that round - he was spent. he had no more energy in the tank.

i still think the fight could have gone either way although groves was winning.

as for the stoppage, it was early. but lets not BLAME CARL FROCH. george groves was all over the place and he was bent over at one point as if he was out on his feet. he looked to be in serious danger at one point. he needs to learn how to maintain his composure. that was the difference. when froch got hit, he didnt show he was hurt.

 

that's with the round 9 full of beating that groves took.

if you disclude that round (ie if George had run from round 9 onwards) then up to round 9 the margin was wider than 76-75, I'd call it by 3 points. George was well on top.


bit of a disingenuous point but thought I'd say it anyway, in that if George had run from round 9 on, he might well have scraped it despite losing the Championship rounds.

Bull**** stoppage.

Groves had Froch hurt numerous times in the fight, especially in the 1st after the knock down.

The stoppage was terrible. He still has his hands up, moving and throwing shots - awful. There MUST be a rematch.

 

The point is that nobody knows what would have happened, and that's the crime. Yes, Groves was looking tired, yes he'd been buzzed and he might have gone down. But he also could have landed a big swing and dropped Froch again. He could have survived the round and got on his bike for the last 3 rounds (probably to lose a decision based on those crappy scorecards).

I don't think Groves could have held Froch off in the Championship rounds, but I don't know. Nobody does. All thanks to that ****ing stupid stoppage.

 

And Groves hurt and bullied Froch around for the majority of the fight.
