you could ask Kelly Pavlik as well while you're at it. or are the injuries for Ward a different matter? :think not forgetting Ward outright ducking Bute. something that Joe never did with any fighter. :good
It depends so much on the circumstances. Where would they be fighting? Who would be officiating? Ward is the more dangerous fighter but Calzaghe had tremendous hand speed and was very elusive. If they fought in Europe or the UK, I think Joe wins the fight by decision. If they fight in Vegas, I think it becomes a pick'em fight. If they fight in Oakland, then Ward wins by decision. Overall, I think Joe finds a way to outpoint Ward. The only way this doesn't happen is if Ward hurts Joe, slows him down and racks up points. But I think this scenario is less likely.
Ward has nothing to keep Calzaghe at bay. The smaller fighter, with no knockout power. Nowhere near the hand speed or work rate as Joe. Ward would be intimidated by Joe's mentality in a fight.
Ahh the best post yet in the 163 rd Calzaghe vs Ward Thread.. Ward Beats Joe's ass in close and dictates the spacing, range and who gets off first.. Nothing suggest Ward would be dismayed by what Joe.. Brings to the table.. :bbb
it was a genuine injury, entailing a year out. Joes were clearly excuses when he bottled out. we can say for definite who Joe avoided and faked injuries for because he never tried to face them despite working his mouth off about them. We can say this safely because so much didn't happen over his whole career. I cannot imagine someone like Ward waiting 10 years to have his first meaningful defence. We cannot say for definite at all that Ward is ducking Bute because it may yet transpire that he faces him, and Bute appears to be the only pretty good smw he hasn't faced. Ward is far from finished and may well yet face Bute. only a hater would say he is ducking bute based on him not yet fighting him.
Hiya pal, Joe said that in the build up to Kessler. "This version of me would kick the ass of the Eubank version of me" That's not a direct quote, but it was words to that effect. Joe, Enzo and Frank W all agreed that Joe was a better all-around fighter at that point.
How did/has Ward outright ducked Bute? Joe defended his WBO, 168 title against subpar opposition for the majority of his career.
